Alarm problem

The car I recently bought has an alarm on it but was turned off via the key switch under the bonnet. Both fobs weren't working either but I got replacement batteries and both appear to work now (red LED lights up).

When I switch the alarm on using the key on the sounder under the bonnet and open the car door, the alarm does go off. However, it is unresponsive to either alarm fob. They don't seem to be able to arm/disarm the alarm, yet both the fobs and the alarm itself obviously work to some extent.

Anyone know what my next troubleshooting step should be? Thanks.

Shure it's probably banjaxed. That's why it was turned off when you got the car. I dunno, check that the boot and bonnet switched are working properly.

I wouldn't say so. There just seems to be a communication fault between the alarm fob and the alarm itself.

"check that the boot and bonnet switched are working properly"?
