Harry Redknapp for the England job

It looks like, although its not a foregone conclusion, that Harry Redknapp will be approached to be the next manager of the England national team.

Should he leave Spurs for the poisoned chalice that is the England job?

He has done a remarkable job with Spurs, taking them from an almost side to Champions league football, top four material and maybe even title contenders.

Its, imo, Harry's best and most prestigious club managment job yet so why would he want to give this up? Who would Spurs replace him with? and what would become of his club career after what I feel would be an inevitable sacking or resignation from the England job?

He'd be mad to leave Spurs and I have a feeling he will rule him self out as its ultimately a lose lose situation for him. He's just enjoying the Spurs job too much.

He will never take it, I mean in International games there is no player transfers for money so he cant make his cut from any dealings :p

I reckon he'll look to take the job on a temporary basis until after the Euros, a poor showing there and he'll stick with Spurs.

Whether the FA and Spurs would be happy with this I don't know.

Yes of course he will take it, and of course he should take it.

He'll take it, but i reckon he'd be crazy to take it, the press will ravage him after the euros.

Agree 100% with the highlighted bit but Arry is nobodys gom and will probably try to take it part time til after the euros and decide then as was said above. If the FA don't allow this I would feel that he will walk away from it.

At least we won't have to listen to him tapping up players in the transfer windows.

I'll wait for the obligatory car window interview from 'Arry discussing how nobody's talked to him but he couldn't say if he is or isn't interested but it's a top top job before placing any bets...

He would be mad, Spurs will be in the Champions league next season and they are a team on the up.

Of course he'll take it....it'll be a good reason for him to visit his favourite overseas locations like switzerland, lichtenstien, cayman islands, monaco.......

Goodnight Ppl wen I wake up tomoz morning I get a call from The FA about the England Job I will be very disappointed If i don't get it

    Such a legend.

Harry'll get it alright, I think I read something the last day about Levy approaching Jose for the Tottenham job next year.

Digging up an old thread, but will Harry get it now? They're playing some woeful stuff.

    course he'll get it

I think he will still get it, the FA have to appoint an Englishman and I do not think they will be that stupid to give Pearce the job full time. That leaves it really between Harry and Hodgson, and of them two Harry is the better option as he is a good manager and the media love him.

England deserve 'arry and 'arry deserves England. Another disaster waiting to happen to England's dreaming. After a couple of years the tabloids will be hounding him out.

As it happens up 'til a few months back England had the best manager they could possibly get in Capello, but the gobshytes wouldn't play for him. They are a hopeless case, I wish we drew them in the Euro 2012 groups. Who knows we might meet in the later rounds.

Beginning to think they will fall at the first hurdle, thanks to this fiasco.

Roy Hodgson still fancies his chances, don't think he would be any worse than Arry as an international manager. Press don't love him as much though so my money is still on Arry, and who will crash and burn like so many England managers before him.

I still think Spurs will get in the top 4, and they are a team on the up with their young and skillful players, they are going through a bad patch atm though

I'd say the deal is already done but they are keeping it quiet to see if spurs finish forth or not.

i think they will give it to harry should he make the decision to leave spurs. i wouldn't rule out roy hodgson , ok he didnt do well at liverpool but has done a very good job with west brom. he has turned into a good , mid table side. on the plus side with hodgson, he has experience of managing international teams, he got switzerland to the euros in 1996 and did quite good with finland as well.

its unlikely pardew will throw his hat into the ring especially with them going so well. glenn hoddle said the other day he would be interested but can't see that working out. there isnt too many english managers anyway in the epl. i wonder will big sam look for it. :D

They should just appoint the Sky pundits!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,382 ✭✭✭✭greendom

Spurs form of late has shown that he's not up to the job. The FA have been given fair warning - will they go ahead and do the lazy thing and appoint him anyway ? Disastrous for England if they do

i see where you are coming from , but as long as they get the CL spot then if harry puts himself forward then he should get the job.

If I was the F.A, I would go for Pardew, tactically on a different planet to Arry.

Sure I had a spurs fan on here claim that form doesn't matter, so long as the players claim that they are playing well, and then produced a quote from Gallas saying that they were.

    Great stuff altogether.

Didn't pardew rule himself out of the job after Capello resigned? The newspapers all had a good laugh about it, the idea of anyone but Saint 'Arry getting it was alien to them.

Coincidence that the bad patch just happened to start when Capello resigned? If I was Daniel Levy I would tell Redknapp to either commit to Spurs or piss off. With a bit of luck he gets the job and the English wont be able to blame a foreigner for their mediocrity!

I think Hodgson would be the better choice tbh, hes shown with Fulham and WBA that he can squeeze everything out of a limited amount of resources in the EPL. Was unlucky not to have won the Uefa cup with Fulham that year, unbelievable run. As for the Liverpool job, was'nt given a chance, did'nt do half as bad a dalglish with no spending money.

Anyways, England. He has the International experiance on his side, done very well with the Swiss team at the WC, getting them to the last 16 only losing to Spain. Then they breezed through Euro 96 qualification only for him to leave for the Inter job.

The with Finland, just narrowly missed out on qualification which in itself was a remarkable achivement for what he was working with.

I really wanted him to take the Ireland job before Trap came along.

What he did show at Liverpool is that he is completely incapable of managing a team with high expectations and motivating high calibre players. He'd be torn to pieces by the English fans and press as soon as he mentions talks about a "famous" away win to some average international outfit. England are team who feel they should be competing for European and World cups, Hodgson is the type of manager who deems just qualifying for those types of tournaments as a big success. Hodgson for England would be a terrible appointment, I hope they make it though.

    + 1

I'd say the FA have definately spoken to Redknapp and have a gentleman's agreement in place that he will take charge once the season ends. Otherwise, why haven't the FA taken on someone else by this stage if they're not wating for Harry? They'd hardly risk waiting til the end of the season to approach him where he could just turn around and say "I'm flattered but no thanks".

I predict that he'll turn out to be another McClaren and it'll be equally, if not more, hilarious.

I don't know, I was at Spurs vs Newcastle a few weeks back. Pardew played a very naive 4-4-2 there and Spurs tore it to shreds.

As an Englishman, I'd give it to Hoddle or Sven for the Euros and that buys some time to find the best coach available. Not overly enamoured by Redknapp.
