Hickeys and the Woolen Mills in town have some fabrics, Inspiring Ideas in Blanchardstown has a bigger selection. All are very pricey. Have you looked online?

Pippa Blue in Galway do a range of quirky Japanese prints in heavy cotton for quilting etc. if you're interested. Website below:

Thanks so much for the replies, I have been looking online, and I bought some fabric in the sales, i tried cutting it out on Friday evening, but i'm not doing a good job, so I'm leaving it for my class again this week, don't want to be wasting all the fabric after paying for it :D

I saw a rotary cutter (like a pizza slicer for fabric) in a charity shop on capel street for just €2. A huge saving considering mine cost over €25. It looked sturdy and I think it even came with replacement blades.

The charity shop is the really long one on the adult-store side (!) of capel street. I can't remember the name exactly but it is a very long shop and there are usually 2 young members of staff working. Hope this helps.

Just a suggestion, but as you are just starting out and don't want to waste expensive fabric, maybe you could visit second-hand clothing shops and get some cotton clothing to cut up. I know some folk who do it that way and make gorgeous things. I don't, so I'm no use to you I'm afraid.
