Lee v Macklin at MW......2 Irish fighters on the fringe of title success for the last few years

i felt macklin was robbed against sturm......lee has come back well after his defeat

a big contrast in styles........who wins this all ireland clash??

    i favour macklin!

i don't like what i see when lee is put under pressure

Macklin gets hit even more. Previously I'd have gone with Macklin's pressure to be too much and overwhelm Lee, either stopping him late or winning a decision. Now I'd see it the other way, Lee has the tools to outbox him and control the fight from range. He probably hits hard enough to end it before the 12th round has finished.

I'm with you. Macklin has no power, is a small MW too and would be kept at range for long periods. Lee has enough power to hurt and wobble Macklin.

If Matt had power, I see the power and stamina wearing Lee out. Matt has just the volume; he would need to be hurting Lee consistently.

A suprise KO for Lee would not surprise me:rolleyes::eek:

i think macklin hits harder than lee

mackins ko to win the european title was great power

macklin is known to be able to bang....his power has improved at MW.....macklin showed good head movement against sturm....his defence is quite good with movement....lee struggles to fight on the inside.....if someone gets in close he struggles badly

Andy controls it early on and its then a question of if macklin can wear him down for a late stoppage, which is perfectly possible given Lee's well known failings and Macklin's style. But either way I don't see macklin outpointing him.

Macklin has workrate, but needs to lay serious leather on Lee. I don't see him getting close enough often enough to do the trick. Also, Lee could take a shot, and Matthew is no Julian Jackson, more like a PBF hitter at MW.

Lee comfortably. Wouldn't be worried about Lee's stamina in this fight. If he stays his distance and doesn't get dragged into wrong fight (as he often does) he should outpoint MM.

Think Lee would take it by using his jab. Macklin does tend to puff up/bruise in the face. Plus he gets hit by accurate fighters. Lee is fairly accurate.
Macklin throws alot o punches but I think he'd be better off throwing less and picking his shots. Alot o the stuff he threw against Sturm there was nothing on them.

I agree. And, Sturm was never bothered, or tired. If Lee relaxes, covers up when he needs to, I see Macklin getting beaten all night.

i think its obvious sturm was bothered by macklin...

most commentators had macklin a clear winner....even the german tv had macklin well winning

so if macklin well beat sturm in the eyes of most i think it's fair to say that macklin was able to bother sturm

sturm has a great defence so he was able to block some of macklins punches....

lee has a bad defence and he has a longer frame for macklin to score body punches...

macklin to wear lee out and win on points or by late stoppage

I think he means bothered by the shots Macklin was landing (as in hurt or discouraged), not by Macklin as a whole, of course he was given seriously trouble by Macklin to the point most felt he won.

I would disagree with the statement that Macklin didn't bother Sturm with his shots though, I felt he got to him early to the body and Sturm wasn't taking it that well. But then Macklin started to neglect bodywork as the fight went on and in the latter stages I don't believe he did trouble Sturm much in that regard.

I don't believe Lee has a bad defence, I feel he is still improving and learning and while the McEwan fight may not have gone as planned, McEwan isn't a bad fighter and It's not unreasonable to struggle with a fighter of that calibre on your way up, as long as you can improve and learn from it. I thought Lee was sensational in his last fight and has certainly demonstrated he's improved a hell of a lot since the first time he boxed Vera. He boxed beautifully in the rematch and wouldn't be an easy task for any fighter at Middleweight based on that performance.

    .
Spot on. Sure, some of Mackilin's shots hurt, but overall Sturm was the one who landed the cleaner and more hurtful looking shots

He sure bothered Sturm with his workrate and his non stop fighting, but never once did I see Sturm really troubled or hurt. I had Macklin the winner, but I also stressed that Sturm to me was pretty poor. Macklin landed most of his shots not as clean as he wanted.
