Unable to get up or unable to stay up? Suckler or Dairy?
Could the cow have lay down on him?

Are you sure the calf was getting enough milk. I seen where a cow had a big full udder and only a small amount of milk. The calf would stay sucking but obviously getting no milk.

Check his skin to see if he's hydrated enough. Maybe through a few litres of electrolyte into him anyway.

As said earlier maybe he hasn't sucked enough?

We had terrible problems a few years ago with lazy calves and the vet said it was a selenium problem to suplent rest of cows which helped. Vet injected calves but I can't remember what it was.
