need a bit of help here, i try my best to keep my facebook privacy dialled up but recently its gotten the better of me.
up until now, my posts would never have the location attached (unless i chose check in) but earlier today it started showing up.

i think i had a pop up on other apps, to ask for specific permissions for the location data, in addition to what was given at install (or maybe its something different?)

anyway, the question i have is, where can i disable this again? is it in the app or a phone setting somewhere. I've checked the usual places but this is escaping me

Settings > Location and security: Turn off Use wireless networks and use GPS satellites

thanks for the suggestion, but thats a bit of sledgehammer to crack a wallnut approach. i still want to use location services, just dont want to post my whereabouts to facebook any time i share something. even then, afaik, facebook will just grab my last location from cell towers or stored in the phone. this is something i need to stop at a facebook level, whether its a control policy in the phone or a facebook setting

When you're posting, you'll see your location in light grey at the bottom of the "Whats on your mind?" panel. Click the Pin icon on the toolbar underneath to show all nearby locations. The location that was in light grey will be at the bottom with an X on the right of the line. Tap the X and the location will be removed.

No idea how to turn it off for all posts....

By any chance did you install the separate messenger app?

If you open that and go to settings / location services, it will say something like turn off/on location for all your conversations.

Edit: Just checked there out of curiosity, seems the main facebook app itself doesn't have that option to turn it off. Needs to be done from messenger app.

This will not effect your ability to check in for example if you wanted to , if you want to add a locaiton to a status update you click the kind of balloon icon/ check in icon it's the 2nd one on the lower left enter where you enter text.

thanks, ive tried the first suggestion and it works, which is at least a method to stop the sharing.
according to their "location" page its possible to turn it off permanently, yet no option seems to exist. ill continue my search.

thanks! i hadnt installed messenger, but installing it and disabling location services seems to have also removed the info from new posts in the main facebook app. guess ill just have to leave it installed for now.

Might not be useful for you if you're on stock ROM, but cyanogenmod has option to disable service per application - I use it to kill ads in apps that don't need internet access to work.

thanks for that info, im using checkrom but i dont seem to have that level of control within it.
plan on moving to CM9 once its stable so thats something i can look into at that point
