Go for Prosecco, they are the exact same except they are from different regions. Nobody is going to be able to tell the difference anyway.

    Neither: go for a Cava.

You can get perfectly drinkable Cava Negro from €6/7 a bottle. Anything around the €10 mark will be as good as most big-name champagnes imho.

I would know the difference. I'd rather have a decent Cava or prosecco than a cheap champagne though. We got a good Crement de Loire in Superquinn for our wedding, it worked out about €9 a bottle and there was a discount for buying several cases. Went down a treat.

A Cava, Prosecco or even an Australian Sparkling Chardonnay would be a good alternative to Champagne - as long as you don't go completely bargain basement (some cheap sparkling wine is either very sweet or very gassy). Lots of deals to be had - check Tesco, Superquinn, O'Briens.

Agree with the comment re: Cremant de Loire in Superquinn - I think they have it on offer at the moment. Very nice - with the advantage that you can get both white and rose.

go neither again and have Lambrosco. it's a gorgeous summer, light fruity sparkling drink. that's what we are having. least you won't have people getting drunk too early. it's about €2.15 a bottle:) you can get it in lidil or aldi.

My vote goes to Prosecco. You can get it in lidl Fairly cheaply and i think it fab.

You can't beat a quality champagne, but that comes with a pricetag...
If you serve a sparkling wine fairly cold, that can help pull-off a cheaper drink. Personally I also quite like the plain prosecco bottles they sell in Dunnes, comes with a little tag attached to the cork and costs 7 or 6 euro a bottle. Wedding wine specialists can also probably give you a discount for bulk purchases, so you can try getting a slightly more expensive version with them than if you purchased the same from a standard off-licence.

Thanks guys, so much to choose from now!
I still have plenty of time to consider them all though!

    Cheers again

I would go with the Cava too. Believe me the amount of glasses that are left over on the tables it really isnt worth the money to pay for good stuff.

Been testing out Prosecco's of all prices recently. This is the best one I have found so far.

There is nothing worst than cheap champagne. I completely agree with the previous posters suggesting to go with a very nice Prosecco or Cava!

I love good chmpagne and good Prosecco.

Unless you are in love with the idea of one or the other then they are not a necessity.
My experience and what other people tell me is that there is a lot of waste.

That's if your hotel provides it for free. Our hotel provides house wine starting at 22 per bottle. We can do a lot better even with corkage.

My personal choice would be champers, but it really is a taste thing. If you are doing corkage then I would watch for a Tesco sale I have got Tattinger for 18.50 a bottle and I love it. While yes that is about a fiver more than a good Cava it is more bang for your buck.

    You think?

I'd be very surprised if a €15 bottle of Cava didn't taste better than the Tattinger tbh. It's one of those things where you're paying for the name onl;y you're paying for it twice: once for the name of the region and a second time for the brand name of "Tattinger". There's a reason we all know the name: they spend millions every year promoting it, millions which add to the cost of the bottle.

I'm not sure of the quality in M&S but we got some cava at the weekend and received25% discount on 6 bottles. Cheapest we got was 12.50, dearest was 22.50. Hope this helps.

I love Tattinger then a good prosecco.
    Tattinger is worth the money.
The lidl champagne has won awards recently above the more expensive ones.

If your thing is cava yes, but I personally prefer Tattinger, not at €59.99 a bottle but in Tesco today it is reduced to €25.00 with a further 5% off for 6 or more, they usually have a 25% off sale every few months, which means I can buy a good champange for good cava price which to me is worth it.

I suppose I'm letting my taste buds rule me here. It's certainly a good price for a premium brand champagne!
