howdy.dont know if its the right place to post so ,mods feel free to move.

Sceal is my wife has being recieving weird text messages from <snip>
says his name is paul and he lives in galway (WHATEVER)
i thought straight away one of the lads messin.
wife didnt reply but he did saying sorry must have wrong number and i hope i called a woman a sexy lady.
anyway,a week later my wife bumps up her add on donedeal ,selling her wedding dress.then within half an hour he txts back again hey sexy over there blah blah.
and he kept texting being very calculated in his phrasing and how he could keep the conversation open even tho we werent.
the scary thing is my wifes sister has sold hers aswell and has got texts from this freak to,saying the same things trying to create conversation.
Wehave come to the conclusion he is picking up girls numbers in the bridal section of donedeal.
we contacted donedeal and alerted them to this weirdo.
we rang the gards and they said "well thats what you get for putting your phone number on the internet" "all sorts of weirdos out there" "delete the message" "do you really want to know who or where they are"
this was from a female gada.
i know how to spell garda but that bitch doesent deserve to be called a garda.

"thats what you get for putting your phone number on the internet"
so what dont use the internet anymore ,lets leave the freaks have fun.

"all sorts of weirdos" we know.

    "delete the message"
oh yea delete the evidence so that if anything like a stalker or rapist is about and picking off sombody....need i continue.

Anyway i just thought id warn people about this.
and my wife has removed the add from donedeal and behold no more text messages since.he knows we sussed him.

il also be filing a complaint to the garda ombudman about that poor excuse of a gada.

    Sounds a bit odd.

Can I call up to your house near hook head and discuss this with you further?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,012 ✭✭✭✭Cuddlesworth

You don't put your number up on the net. Its common sense.

He hasn't threatened your wife or been harassing her in any real sense, he's just chancing his arm. There is nothing the Gardai can do. Your Wife put her number in the public domain and is now receiving calls because of it.

You seem to have a problem with being told the truth. I'd suggest loosing the attitude and ignoring him. He will go away.

I'm not saying that the garda is right to dimiss it. And your man clearly has a screw loose. But that is what you're opening yourself up to by putting your mobile number up on the internet for anyone and everyone to have access to.

To be honest, if my sister starting getting texts from a freak after putting her number up on a website, the last thing I would do was go putting my number up on the same site.

look here.i havent given all details of the messages ,but what i can say his
choice of words is very clever.
    secondly i dont have attitude.
and yes he seems to have gone.
course you can put your number on the internet, but when people pick your number from the bridal section of donedeal....
problem with being told the truth??

So you did what the guard told you to do and took the advert down and stopped getting the texts but you're still going to complain about the guard. That makes no sense whatsoever.

As another poster said your wife put her number in the public domain. I don't know the website you're referring to but could you not have put up an email address to answer any queries?

What did the "ombudman" do to deserve the "gada" treatment from you?

So basically you're going to report a Garda because she didn't think it was a good idea to quit her job of upholding the law and instead start scouring the country for some desperate chancer who sent a few weird texts.

Not alone has this fool not broken the law, he hasn't even acted in a threatening manner.

Can you try to imagine the kinda manpower which would be required in this country if Gardai were expected to hunt down every idiot who chanced his arm in a text? Imagine the taxes! :D

    Goon

So what's the deal, your wife put her number on Craigslist with a picture of her dressed up in a wedding dress looking for a good time? Is that it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,644 ✭✭✭cml387

Apart from not putting your number up on the interweb, another piece of free advice would be not to ask for advice on AH.

Of course that means that this piece of advice is worthless, so you should ignore it.

    Hope that's clear.

So a guy checks the wedding dress for sale section of donedeal looking for phone numbers of jilted lovers and disillusioned wives?

Sounds like a charming romantic comedy possibly staring Owen Wilson.

Get a new sim, advertise the dress again and if he texts lead him on. Post results here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 313 ✭✭Nyan Cat

Using the net 101 - dont put up personal details like Phone and address. Email address for adverts sites. Because thingsike this do happen.

Anyway I've heard of this kind of thing. Guys who cold call women hoping one of them might get drawn into the conversation. The bridal section is probably just his particular hunting ground cos he gets pictures to chose from. Or at the very least he gets an idea of a womans shape from the dress. These guys are annoying but they get bored

Do these sort of people not realise they'd be better off actually trying to meet women in a non-creepy way? I don't understand these sort of weirdos.

Dear ombudsman. My wife put her number on done deal and somebody texted her and called her sexy. The Garda did nothing but give me good advice. What if it's larry murphy looking for a victim? Garda should be fired even though her advice worked. Men shouldn't be allowed come onto my wife because I am insecure. The end.

A come on, post them, I could do with some new material!

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

I got a couple of weird texts when I was trying to sell a fireplace on donedeal. They were pretty lame to say the least. It was like they were being sent by a 12 year old boy tbh.
However I did get this one old lad used to keep ringing me about an exercise bike I had up for sale. He rang about 3 times in all, I thought he was genuine about purchasing, but it did unnerve me, his constant shortness of breath during our conversations.

Maybe he was trying to purchase the exercise machine to combat his shortness of breath!

I've been sexting with this guy for a week and he traced my fone to my house no lie somehow. Once he arrived (looking more like 40 than 19 like he said might I add) I was hesitant to let him in. We ended up doing the dirty but he wouldn't leave until I had threatened to ring the guards on him.

It's dangerous to text those you don't really know.

Another 'The guards should hold my hand while i cry like a baby' threads.
Grow the fúck up! If theres nothing threatening or intimidatory in the messages then there is no offence, your wife put her number up so she has to accept some responsibility when something like that happens.

Reply to the message telling the weirdo that his messages are unwanted and that you have reported him to the guards, then ignore them. Its not like he has called to your house or even knows where you live!

By your reasoning your phone provider should be doing something about it, did you report it to them? I'll bet not, so why should the guards be bothered, dont you think they have better things to be doing than wasting their time on bull**** like this. Grow up!

You OP, shpuld have rung him back and told him the wedding dress was yours and you like to do some cross dressing at the weekends. Ask him was he into the same stuff and did he want to come over and dress up with him.

I would bet good money he would never text again.

OP have you considered suing the Garda and the advertising website ??? this sort of harassment is not what you would expect when you pay to advertise a product..... ha ha ha.

you can only blame yourself or your wife.

    You have his phone number.
How about you put an ad somewhere using his number selling something at a very good price. Eg An iphone for 150 euros or purebred boxer pups for 100 euros(or use your own imagination, maybe something like dogging)
    He works shifts presumably 6 to 2, 2 to 10, and 10 to 6.
He has been stressing you out obviously, now you can stress him out with dozens of unwanted phone calls.

I'd say the freak is contacting women he thinks may be vulnerable because they are selling their wedding dresses.:confused:

Why not just ring the number and shout the freak out of it? He obviously thinks he is messaging a woman and won't be expecting a male voice to tell him to f*ck off.

At least if it was me that is what I'd get a male friend to do. Actually, I'd probably ring him myself but would worry he'd get off on it :D
