    Hi all,

Im currently in the middle of organising a charity film screening in dublin at the end of this month and would love some suggestions from people please. We are looking for cult classic type stuff. We are hoping to have an interval where we could sell raffle tickets and have pizza etc so one with a natural break in it would be best. its going to take place on a tuesday night. any film suggestions would be gratefully accepted. its for a very good cause...i'd try to plug it here but im not so sure if im allowed to!

    thanks :)

What time is it at? Is it a family orientated event or not?

Doubt they're getting a print but they should at least project off Blu-Ray.

One of the popular comedic greats like Some Like It Hot, Withnail and I, The Big Lebowski or The Odd Couple should go down a treat with any adult audience.

Can I ask how you're getting a print of whatever movie you want, and with so little notice?

I'd say go for something like Amelie. It's a beatiful film.

Edit: I thought you were showing it in a cinema.

    Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World
    The Breakfast Club
    Clueless
    Mean Girls
    Almost Famous

Also Annie Hall can be considered a cult classic in its own right.

These will rock the place down, take your pick, thank me later.

Donnie Darko, you can't really get cult-ier than that.

Well known obviously but any love for Ghostbusters? It's one of those films I always wish I'd seen in the cinema.
If in doubt Withnail and I is always a great shout.

And sorry I don't mean to be that guy but i think you asked for cult film suggestions and if feckin Mean Girls counts as cult than Jim Jarmusch should hang himself right now. This is coming from a fan of Mean girls!

I would bloody pay double to see it in the cinema again

A cult film is one that acquires a group of devoted fans, I would think Mean Girls fits that criteria! :)

Hi Clare I just seen a post about a charity cinema night you organised, I am hoping to do one for my charity around Christmas time, could you please let me know how it worked out for you and what way it works with the cinema, do they take a cut of the ticket sales? thanks a mill.

hi..i approached the screen cinema who if i remember correctly wanted 600eur to use the room and screen. in order to show the film you'll need to get a license which are range of prices depending on the film but apparently disney movies are the more expensive to screen for whatever reason...prices are around the 150eur mark. so those are your 2 big expenses which would mean you'd probably have to charge around 20eur per person but you'd have a nice facility and as its legit you could also get some sponsership and be able to advertise the event widely. id suggest showing a cult type movie where ppl could come in fancy dress and then have an intermission and award a prize for best dressed etc raffle tickets etc.
the other way you could do it is to show the film in a pub/hall/college lecture hall. keep it low key i.e. just advertise online to a particular demographic..students/friends/family. use a laptop/projector to show the film. take a risk and not bother with the license but then only charge about 5eur to show it...if you get any q's about the lack of a license i i've heard you can argue that as the event was advertised privately (facebook event as opposed to publicly displayed posters) it is only being shown to a group or club..im not really sure of this loophole but apparently one exists.

sorry i never actually answered the q!! no they dont want a cut of ticket sales..just money upfront.
what movie are you thinking of showing? where in the country are you going to be showing it?
