    Well folks

Looking for some suggestions as I am quite ignorant when it comes to bikes.

Looking at buy a bike for this coming Summer. I like to get away with my Kayak camping for two weeks and it's nice but having a bike with me would add to the fun. I am thinking of doing the Greenway this year and was looking at maybe getting a Hybrid.

I am an 18 Stone 6 foot male.

I am thinking hybrid as I don't want to buckle wheels left right and centre and would like a bike that could tolerate being taken off the beaten track on gravel roads etc.

Any suggestions on a nice affordable light bike that would suit my needs ? Looking to go brand new too by the way :)

    Cheers folks :)

Wouldn't you need a MTB as opposed to a Hybrid if you're the outdoors type?

Well i like roads. I don't really have the balls for Mountain Biking so any trails I'd be taking would be civilised ones.... if that makes any sense ?

Well the best advice we could give you would be to pop into your local bike shop and talk with the folk there. Nothing beats going in, seeing the wide choice available to you and then sitting on the bike(s) and seeing how they feel.

Do try and go with one of the big names though, Cube, Giant, Trek, Cannondale etc. You really do get what you pay for. A quality bike will last you years and will be enjoyable to ride.

Any of the brands mentioned above (and there are plenty other big names I'm leaving out) will have an array of Hybrid bikes for you to choose from.

something like this trek would be ideal although you'll find it hard to get one this cheap

    Right up your street MugMugs.:D
    Spyker
    or
    Saab off roader.
Actually saw one of these at a European rallycross event in Lydden Hill in '09. Mechanics for Per Eklund would buzz around the paddock on it.
Sorry couldn't resist,I lurk on the motors forum a lot.:)

You say you'd buy brand new,so what sort of budget do you have in mind?
You should be fine on a hybrid.Once the wheels are strong you'll be grand. No need to be pushing around the extra weight of a MTB.
