how 2 check VRT Stat for a UK car

I bought a UK car the dealer claimed decleared. But I dont trust him since I dont see the doc. Can any1 tell me a way to check the VRT status without my car being taken away?

If the VRT was payed they would have got the registration number instantly when it was payed, my guess is it wasn't. Was it a proper dealer you bought it from with their own sales facilities or just a fly by night selling cars on the side?

If you didn't get any documentation such as the V5 form it it's on UK plates the ownership of the car could be in question and the owner on the V5 form could claim the car as stolen.

Would have thought the dealer would need a TAN number to be able to stock UK cars and not register them on import. Sounds like a fly-by-night operation that it trying to stay under the tax radar.

You need to see the VRT receipt and RF100 to confirm the car has had the VRT paid. When the VRT is paid, the VRT receipt and RF100 are issued.

A real easy way to see if it has yellow plates.

If it was cleared it would be on Irish plates.

Not necessarily.
When you clear a car, you're not handing out the reg plates.
You need to go and have the reg plates done up for you with the documentation of the new reg from the VRT office.

That sentence alone is not entirely correct.

Yes, the dealer is meant to clear it and get the plates for you. We've already established he hasn't got the plates for the OP but that doesn't conclusively mean he hasn't VRT cleared it.
In all likelihood, he probably hasn't though.

If it was your average private sale and someone drove it back from N.I or UK, you might have it VRT cleared but not have your new reg plates on the car yet.

Or if the dealer is telling the truth, that would be another scenario where you could be driving with yellow plates, despite the car being cleared.

Again, to clarify, I think the dealer is lying here though.

Here's the think OP. If he hasn't VRT'd the car, and it sounds like he hasn't. Then the car is not in your name so more than likely your insurance is void. You also run the risk of having the car confiscated by customs.
