It depends how hilly/flat the ride is. I manage about 22/23 in 2.5 hours on a hilly route

Limerick to just past birdhill on the old road - is that considered hilly? prob not. That was my run this morning on my 25 yr old MTB. Averaged 22kph over 50km - Gotta get a proper racing bike :-(

I'd love to be able to do 80km in and around the 3hour mark

I got 28kph over 170km recently. Pleased enough with that but I died completely in the last 25km.

Lots of factors to consider when determining whether your average is good or not. Plus is a personal thing, my idea of a good average may be a dissapointment to the next man so its all relative.

Were you in a group or solo?
What type of terrain? 600m+ for a 2.5hr ride id consider hilly
    Weather conditions? Windy?
Road conditions? Some flat roads are a struggle.

Id agree with Feck also, it becomes a grind chasing faster averages and some of the enjoyment is lost! Nothing beats pottering around down in Wicklow on a nice summers day. Fingers crossed we get a summer this year.

My fastest average speed over just under 2 and a quarter hours, cycling alone, was 36kph

(pointy hat, skinsuit and disc wheel may have made a difference;))

I'd generally average 28/29 on a 2 hour spin if it's not too hilly.

On a side note - on a segment on Strava recently and I managed 39 over a 3km stretch. Several are well ahead of me on the same segment achieving between 40 and 45 but someone has just posted an avarage of 69kph on this stretch! I find that difficult to believe as it's a busy residential Dublin road with several junctions and I would have difficulty averaging 69 in a car nevermind a bike!

forgot to turn gps off after putting bike in car most likely

Yeah - I managed to hit over 100kph one day. Can't remember it though as I was concussed in the back of an ambulance heading down the M1 to Beaumont Hospital, someone having put the Garmin in my bag for me

Nothing wrong with that speed. I wouldn't worry about what people on a forum can do, we're all at different levels, and those who happy with their times will inevitably post them (while the rest of us stay schtum). On a bike, you're only in competition with yourself, the longer you're on it and the more you learn about it, the faster you'll get.

70km in 2:32 over the mighty col de Naul in the wilds of NCD (50m+ climbing !) this morning. Nearly froze to death in the first hour. Later in the year I might knock a (very) few minutes off that.

I'd aim for a solo 30kmph ave speed over a flatish route but anything hilly or over 80km that number would drop to 26-28
