So had a bit of a strange experience today (tldr version at end)

went upstairs in fallon and byrne for some reasonable good food..(pork belly salad...nom nom!)

eating away and happen to glimpse someone who looks familiar in the corner of my eye.............look again....its my ex

god damn it....has she seen me (probably...a lot of wimmins be more cute and observant than I)....wont avoid lest I be accused of being ignorant etc

so got up and walked over to say hello, fully intending to exchange meaningless pleasantries and make a quick exit....its definitely her (strange, thought she was working in England)

I say hello.....somethings wrong ....she is looking at me like she has never seen me before.......I try saying hello x its me etc......then I say do I know you.....she says no...seeming slightly amused/bemused (as does what must be her mother/aunt at the same table) ...cue apologies, brief explantion and quick exit

Its not her at all...just some really beautiful looking randomer who happens to be the spitting image of her..............I am good with faces....apart from being an inch or two taller this girl was exactly the same..............I have never ever experienced anything like this before.............the resemblance was just truly uncanny

still a bit shook strangely......nothing truly unsual has ever happened in my life (its all been explainable and bland).........but this was weird....my mind went through myriad increasingly unlikely explanations such was the resemblance

I knew the ex family well so I know its not an older sister

Was it her and she was just messing with my head (no.....she was slightly different in build and her face was ever so slightly different up close)

Was this girl a secret adopted sibling?

    Sperm donation?

make me taller surgery in a less than scrupulous medical practice in a former eastern bloc hellhole and subsequent mindwipe and personality transplant

    secret government cloning programme

    Alien Doppleganger?

In any event my question AH is ................... is it possible for two completely unrelated people to look so incredibly alike (same hair, fashion sense, nose, mouth, smile, eyes, posture)...it was just weird......and has this happened to any of ye?

(tldr : seen a girl who looks almost exactly like my ex but isn't.......wtf:eek:)

The real story here is that you went out with a stunner once.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 84 ✭✭Mercurius

One possibility you haven't considered is that you're so horrid looking the Men in Black went at her with a neuralyzer.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,439 ✭✭✭Kevin Duffy

No, it was her and she won the first encounter since the breakup. 1-0 to the ex, top corner screamer with the old "Who are you again?" move. She's good OP, you're gonna have to up yer game for the rematch!

    Did you get her number?

If I were a psychologist I'd charge you €1500 to tell you that you may have mild separation and resentment issues.

Thankfully I'm not, so your story probably suggests that you want to sleep with your mother.

I have (a good while ago)...but I'm fairly sure I wasn't brainwashed into forgetting about her or vice versa

    fairly sure................................................

(disclaimer: OP is based solely on real life events and is not intended as a work of fiction........any resemblance to real people or events is entirely intentional.....given that it actually happened about 6 hours ago)

additional: should have given her my number or got hers...........

Sounds like you're eating ice cream from a gallon drum and crying into a bottle of ALDI whiskey as you're writing this.

Oh she was...trust me on that...she played me like a violin...sorta like the way vanessa mae plays a violin

you're gonna have to up yer game for the rematch!

It wasn't her but I am considering how entertaining the looks on my friends and the exes faces would be if they met me with this girl ......the resemblance was so uncanny...............................

    Not a drop..honest

No mind or mood altering substances either...as god/or whomever you deem suitable is my witness.

late lunch/broad daylight, tap water - not even some caffeine.....I'm not a big drinker in any event (apart from the very occasional mad one)

I genuinely have...its been many years since we went out.....she got married three or four years ago (wasn't a bit upset - we were very different in terms of what we wanted from life etc etc went to wedding and had a great time....I wished her well and meant it).....haven't even thought about her for years.

I can see how you might think that however!

it was an unusual set up tbh.....she was part of a group of college friends....we never really fell out..........I had no problem with it, neither did she.

cant imagine many exes go to a formers wedding................and whats more enjoy themselves:D

I actually dont think it's that unusual, there's a lot of people in the world, some are bound to look very alike

yeah..but this was even more than just very alike......it was just plain weird.......(very.... as in 99% alike visually.........just the tiniest of differences - appeared to be a bit taller....slightly straighter lips.....voice was a bit different though come to think of it)

the girl even had the same sort of fashion sense......it was a surreal wtf moment (the likes of which I have never experienced before)

I would've said twin although I suspect they are slightly different ages.

Yeah.....I was glad I decided to not stay in and record it............the most satisfying thing about that match was fast forwarding through most of it.
