all of a sudden my wii games have stopped playing today,
I get the error mgs "game disc could not be read" sometimes
other times, the game will load, play a bit of it, then the same happens" disc could not be read".. I've cleaned the dics, wiped the wii, formatted it, done everything, and still getting the same problem
I have the wii about 3 years now.

any suggestions ? other than having to buy a new one ?

If its not dirty, its likely the laser is burned out/weak.

If the laser needs to be replaced, cost will be €50 to €60 in the pc/console repair shops, just google wii console repair.

If you can wait a few weeks - order the laser ($10) and a triwing screwdriver ($2) from dealextreme. There are some good videos on youtube on how to change the laser.

My wii stopped reading disks intermittently - it would play normally for a few minutes, sometime maybe 20-30 min and then give the disk error. I paid €50 to get the laser replaced, with a 12 month warranty. Works fine since, I also added a small fan at the back.
