    Greetings.
Cannot get these speakers to work with a Dell Inspiron Desktop PC. Had them working on a number of different PC's over time - just plug & play. Do I need a driver ?? or is it something to do with the PC ??
    Any advice welcome.

Speakers don't need drivers, your soundcard does though so make sure they are properly installed. You just connect the 3.5mm audio jack (usually green in colour) into the computer to get sound output then

Thanks Nick. Not sure how to update the sound card. Via the control panel I presume ?

It should have a model number, I.e: Dell Inspiron 519 etc. This will likely be printed on the front of the case

The audio driver for your system is here. Check out sugarmans post as well, these speakers are different than the norm, although I think you will have standard sound and then a black port for the subwoofer or something? I do know someone who has these speakers, I built a computer for him and they worked out of the standard port fine, I only remember one connector aswell!

lookinf under sound in device manager I see Realtek High Definition Audio. in properties it says that this device is working properly and the driver is up to date. Is this the sound card for the speakers ??

Ok, look down in the system tray (next to clock bottom right) for the realtek config program, it usually has an orangey audio icon, open it and play around with the settings

Downloaded the driver and restarted. Double checked all connextions etc and played around with all the ports at the rear and with the sound system manager in the system tray but still no sound. Sub woofer has power as green light is on and all the leads are connected correctly. Not sure what to do next ??

Have a play around with these settings (my screenshot, yours may look a good bit different):

No idea though tbh, Sugarman says they'll only work on certain sound cards, I'm fairly sure the person I built the computer for was using Realtek HD as well though! Just play around with all options in Realtek panel, see what happens.

Many thanks Nick. Will try all available options. Have to log off for a while but will get back to it later this evening and will give an update.

    Thanks again.

Actually, now that I remembered aswell... I had a problem with the cable I was using, theres only one output from the woofer with the black cable that came with it.. If you look at the 3.5mm jack, there is 3 black rings around it which if i remember, means digital. I swapped the cable for a normal one with 2 rings & it worked pferfectly then. Worth a try!

Yeah I'm fairly sure the person was using a standard 3.5mm aux cable with them, I don't remember any issues anyways, I don't remember a digital cable being used (the mobo was fairly basic so I don't think it had digital support included even)

Donr see the cable you're talking about Sugarman. This is a link to the Manual for the speakers if it's a help in identifying cables etc http://ec1.images-amazon.com/media/i3d/01/A/man-migrate/MANUAL000010448.pdf
