From what you've said I don't want to go to the site, even more so when it's "Dot"me at the end of the URL so....

When did you install it? If only lately then use a computer restore point from a time before that.

    If that doesn't work,

What Browser are you using? Did you actually download and install or is it a Browser addon? Try a scan with http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free and see if it finds anything.

Do you see it listed when you go to My Computer-->Local Disk-->Program files?

Some of these are a bitch to remove...

Do the scan in safe mode, keep pressing F2 on startup to get in to safe mode.

    It may be F8.

Do I have to download this? I'm gonna purchase some anti virus next time I get work on my weekend job. Will this help me get rid of it at all? If so any recommendations?

Download what? Malwarebytes? Then yes you have to download but it's very effective at getting rid of malware. I've used it a couple of times and worked a treat.

EDIT: If you're asking about Safe Mode then that is just a stripped version of Windows that loads with the minimum of drivers. This can sometimes be necessary to competely rid yourself of some malware.

Yes, don't buy any. Install one of these...

    MSE
    Avast
    Avira

All of them are good real-time scanners, free to Home User, as good as the paid ones, sometimes better in Lab Tests. The first is Microsofts own one.

Use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer....if that's what your using.

Malarebytes is a anti spyware product, and can be installed alongside mse,Just a word of warning about MSE it will require windows auto updates to be enabled.

You can use Malwarebytes with an Anti-virus. No problems their.

The free one is only an on demand scanner though anyway--->that means you have to actually run it yourself. If you were using the computer alot for banking you should run it weekly.

The paid for one would be actively looking to stop infections, but you don't need it....if your're careful and don't click on dodgy links or install crap addons.

I've just done a scan on MSE. It took a good while, maybe 10 or 15 mins. It says "no threats detected", or something along those lines. What exactly does this mean?

That's actually pretty quick, was it a full one in safe mode? Did you ever do the Malwarebytes one in safe mode? Did you look in Program files to see if groovedown was in there?

No Threats Detected is exactly that--->No dodgy malware/viruses found. Groovedown is probably OK so, what did it change your Homepage to?

You probably had the option to untick a box when installing it to stop it changing your homepage.

okay sorry for not getting back. i did a full search last night with mse it took at least 4 hours and "searched" over 1900000 items. it still said no threats detected. does this mean i have no malware/spyware? and yes i think it was me setting it up in "recommended" mode which caused it to change my homepage to their own one. i changed it back to google and i dont have any problems.
