Budget for a month in India

    Hey,

I'm looking to get a rough idea of what I should budget for a month in India. I would preferably like to be there around Holi day (March 8). I'd be staying in simple single bed rooms, eat like the locals and travel by train. No real splurging is expected.

Can you tell me realistically how much I would need to budget for?

    Cheers

Thanks for the info :) I don't have a Facebook account though so I can't see your pictures.

I've got my tickets booked and I'm off on the 1st of March, just in time for Holi Day in Delhi :D

Really hard to say without knowing how much you're willing to 'slum' it. Do you need A/C? Will you only eat in the best restaurants? I would say I'm a middle of the road traveller. I get AC sometimes when it's very very hot. I travel 2nd AC in trains, and eat in ok restaurants and fast food places. I usually end up spending about €100 a week when travelling in India. Trains and accommodation are the biggest expenses. You could check what they are online and then make a budget around that.

I'd be avoiding the best restaurants and hotels. I'm hopefully going to try to Couchsurf for much of the month, but I inevitably will end up staying in a hostel/hotel. I wouldn't be int the idea of dorm sleeping. So a single bed and possibly AC if it's extremely hot.

I have a rough itinerary made out. Arrive in Delhi, move on to Agra and Jaipur, to Varanasi, on to Kolkata, and Darjeeling before heading back to Dehli to go home.

I will be in India from the 2nd of March until the 30th. Is this doable? And how much time should I give each spot?

I would be traveling by train probably 2nd AC like yourself. How much would you reckon I should budget for?
