I've being having problems with my gas boiler for the last few days. Last Saturday evening there was a strong smell of gas so I rang Bord Gais and they said there didn't seem to be any leak but the boiler badly needed to be serviced. I got it serviced on Wednesday and he said the boiler was fine after the service. It's been fine since until tonight when the smell of gas came back. Not sure what to do now. I've the gas turned off. Apologies for the long message but not sure what to do.

what make and how old is the boiler ?
you might be smelling combustion fumes
was it a reputable service company/person and did they give you a cert after servicing the boiler?

I would get the service engineer back again. Is there a Vent near the flue terminal?

They gave me a cert and was a reputable company. Its a very old baxi boiler. I think I'll leave it off and give the lad that serviced it a ring tomorrow. Getting a bit worried about it.

Should have added that I need to get a vent installed.

    Is it a Baxi Solo?

Sorry don't know exactly what kind of a baxi it is. Yer man said it was fine and it might be a problem with the valve coming into the house rather than the boiler if that makes sense?

Not Really:confused:. The reason why I asked about the Solo is that old one's have a rubber seal on the chamber which over time can become brittle and crack and the result is leakage.

What valve is he talking about? Did he show you?

Thats the problem with the confusion it was my better half that was here when he was here so it's third party information. He said it was the valve at the back of the boiler.

Well in fairness he should have done something about that if that's the case.

I'll give him a ring tomorrow and see what he says. Thanks for the advice. I'll have to stick with the open fire for a few days.

hopefully you will never need it but if seals are leaking and you have a second gas appliance (cooker ,hob etc) could be a potential hazzard
they well worth the money for peace of mind at least
