Recently went to have my car cleaned, went to the place several times previously and they do a decent job, never had any problems before.

But this time it was such a pain in the a$$, I was asked numerous times for a price for my car by several staff at once, which was intimidating.

Then i was edged towards there cars for sale, then asked to trade mine against theres, mines worth in and around 12k, there car cost less than my years insurance.
then when that didnt work i was introduced to the owners son who hit on me and it was really awkward, so eventually he gave up when i said i wasnt single, but the others kept on about wanting me to buy there car, eventually my car was finished and i was out of there like a light, only when i left i realised i never recieved any change in the mess that it was.

it was just the most wierd half an hour of my life.. i dont think i will be going back and if i do i wont be getting out of the car. it was just so much to take in. Ive been in similar situations a few times and the sales people think im stupid, but this has topped the chart.

has anyone else ever been in a garage/car related store where the sales are very forcefull and just dont give up? to a point where you cant wait to get out?

As regards the hitting on, are you a blond?

As regards the car salesmen, are you a blond?

Sorry, it seems that that would be the stereotype that would lead to these situations. If you don't like the place, don't go! Sorry to hear about that, very creepy stuff altogether.

Nope im a brunette, im not totally freaked out or anything, more insulted if anything, its water off my back, but i thought id ask if it happeds often to other people, i find it a bit sad that sales people resort to stuff like that just for a sale

Things are so bad and only going to get worse. They will do anything possible for a sale. That seems very strange what happened to you and you should have just said not interested at the moment but will think about changing next year. You should avoid that place if was that bad for you. Sorry to hear it was a bad experience for you. Look up the net for other places around and probably find somewhere cheaper.

Oh i know, some of them are getting desperate, the thing that annoyed me was that they wanted me to buy there car, ive been in better cars in a scrap yard! i just didnt like the way they were conducting business, it was forcefull selling, ive seen it happen to elderly people quite a bit, but it seems to be more prevelant now.

i just kinda laughed it off in the car after, as it was so unreal, i know of several other garages which i would go to and know quite a few car people i would have to do work on mine for me, it was just that i was passing i said i would get it cleaned, normally id wash it myself, but its too damn cold to be doing that lately!

im just interested to see if it happenes to men? like do they speak to men differently because they assume they know about cars?

when i say cars, they wouldnt be anything decent, under 1k, big engined heaps of s*it in other words.

i usually wash it myself, i was going to do it today, till i walked out into the cold!

i drive a red mk2 st, they wanted me to buy a 98 bmw, 140k miles, 2.0l with polka dot style rust spots everywhere!

That's a bit odd alright, your car must be a minter. Pics of the ST so!

If you're asking a bunch of lads on a motoring forum if they get hit on whilst their cars are being washed, then no, no we don't. :(

Or even if we get our cars washed
I don't want to know how much what I do to clean my car would cost to have done professionally.

On that, I watched the megafactories last night on discovery (it was late and I was bored). They were building the Porsche Panamera. At the end of the car road testing, each car got washed in a garage quality carwash, complete with swirling brushes for the wheels.

There was a thread here not too long ago bitching about those kind of washes so I was surprised to see those used.

Odd they were trying to flog you a 98' ancient sh!te box BMW so randomly. I'm trying to picture it, some lads will try anything to get a girls attention, asking if you were single when doing business with them is pushing it abit. Glad you got out of there quick as you could.

They were chancing there arms, like i would only trade my car for a 08+ year.

They are roma people, so i think its a cultural difference too, the way they deal in business possibly.

I didnt say it before because i wanted a general opinion on the situation, i know when anything race/culture wise is mentioned it always overshadows the the subject.

im in no way racist towards anyone, i think its grand they are doing there thing and making a life for themself.
Similar situations have happened with all different people, but it was more intense and unreal with them.

So no one else on here has been in a similar position?
fair enough to the lads, im sure if there was a woman hitting on you, you would prob be there every second week haha

They did yes, I only noticed when I left, I had my phone glued to my hand inside my pocket, I only just got it, aside from that I don't keep anything valuable in the car, few CDs and what not, stereo is worth a lot, but they would never get it out in that time, they are just cheap con artists. I only had cards on me so the change they kept was the only cash, it was 15 and I gave in a 20.
I know I got ripped, but I won't be going back nore will anyone else I know so I hope that fiver lasts them long.

Yeah I think that might have been the case, they just assumed.

I was thinking of going back and getting a mate to follow me in on foot after a few mins to see what they say, he doesn't look like someone too mess with, he's built like a rhino and knows his stuff about cars so it would be funny to see if they tried to push him around as easy.. Not to start a fight/argument or anything

But then again, it's not worth it, leave them be and watch them push business away.

Well this is kinda motor related but when I was 18 and working on my dads car one evening these 2 "sales reps" came into my yard and kept hounding me to buy personal injury insurance. Now in no way did I entertain them but they wouldn't go away (wanted to get the job done and they were delaying me) wouldn't let me get a word in to say feck off. Got me mother out, couldn't rid of them. After what I can describe as a heated debate I told them to come back when my dad came back from work. Told him the story. They came back, in the dark and tried the same crap with him. He told them we didn't want their insurance, slammed the door in their face and turned off all the lights :pac:

I treated that as a life experience. I can be very short with certain people as a direct result of that! Anyone who comes into my yard without a valid reason is ran away immediately :)

OP you have to learn to be sharp and rude to certain people, be a bit of a cnut when the situation arises :)

It's hard to do when your in a position you've to stay in, while there are 6 people each taking a turn with the sales, then the lad hitting on us made it more awkward

You were scammed/hassled in order to keep your change. Not your fault at all, they would be well practiced at this stage. The other technique is to torture you head so much and then when you pay, shortly after they ask you to pay again, and make a big fuss if you don't. You're head will be spinning with their other rubbish so you tend to think that you must have forgotten / only imagined paying them, and pay again in error. I'd like to see these scumbags reactions if the same comments and scam was pulled on one of their sisters.

they could have tried that one only i knew for certain that was all the cash i had, and i was expecting it to be 15 so i could use the fiver to get chicken for dinner.. thats how i knew that was all i had on me.

yeah i can just imagine you would be seen as the lowest of the low, yet they are carrying out that sort of stuff im sure daily.

If you have a newish MK2 why are you going to a low cost cleaner anyway - you get what you pay for.

    PS MK2..puke

It wasn't puke on the car it was muck..but thank you for your irrelevant opinion though. :)

Well I paid more than I should gave to start with, the car was covered in muck from driving down a country field/lane, the wash was a jet rinse, no sponges used to get the heavy grime off.

Like I said I wash it myself most of the time, if its covered in grime I get them to rinse it off and then detail it myself when I have the time.

buy yourself a little power washer for when the car is really mucky. i got one in homebase for 50euro before xmas. its a small black and decker one. its not very powerfull but is well up to the task of washing mud off the lower body, wheels, and in the wheel arches during the winter months when there is loads of crap on the country roads. 4 trips to them guys will have it paid for and noone will hassle you!
