    Hi,

I have a PC with Win7 64bit and I need to copy the entire disk as an .iso file for installation on another machine, which is the same model.

How do I go about this?

Is there free SW that enables me to do this?

It does'nt work like that, you need to buy a disc or get a loan of one if you already have a license for it.

So there is no free SW that you know of that lets you clone a Hard Drive?

I have Acronis but it doesn't seem to work on 64bit.

I also have ghost, but I can't copy the image to a USB drive I have connected to the PC.

    So just for clarity:

    You have two machines:

Machine A which has a working installation of Windows 7.
Machine B which you want two write an exact clone of the hard disk from Machine A to.

Is that right? Why do you mention .iso files? (that part is confusing me....)

    Yes that's right.

I mention the .iso because it is the file I'm trying to create, but I'm running into trouble.

I could clone the drive to another drive, but then I would have to physically send it, and I don't really have time to do that.

Are you familiar with this at all?

    Cheers

You could try using clonezilla, I'm still not exactly sure what you're trying to do but it should be able to handle pretty much any sort of drive cloning that you need.

You can create a windows 7 system image using built-in tools.

Or boot from a linux CD and use DD to clone the harddrive to a file (including unused/deleted sectors.)

The recipient would have to use a windows iso or linux iso respectively to restore the image to the hard drive on the other side.

use norton ghost to clone the source drive into an image on another portable drive, then plug that portable drive and put the norton ghost cd into the new pc and clone the image onto the new pc's drive.

im doing that right this minute wit some old dells my boss was gonna dump but ive repaired them all and will instead donate all 10 computers to a school for mentally disabled kids. :)
