A couple of my mates are thinking of going over to Abu Dhabi for the golf next year. Ideally play a bit over there and go and watch Rory, Kaymer and hopefully Tiger.

Anyone have any experience of playing golf in the UAE recently?

I am just back from the 2012 event in Abu Dhabi. I could not recommend a visit to next year's tournament more highly. Direct flight from Dublin and cheap cost of living there. Tiger brings in the crowd, I could not help noticing that his absence in recent Dubai Desert Classic was reflected in a much reduced turnout than 2011.
I hope to be there though in 2013 regardless.
    Superb

PS Golf in UAE is very expensive as courses are very costly to maintain due to climate. Greenfees are typically 100€ plus. The courses tend to be of high quality with Yas Links in Abu Dhabi a leading light. Much more cost effective to watch golf down there in Jan/Feb

Golf in the UAE is excellent but quite expensive. I went to the Race to Dubai tournament and the Dubai Desert Classic, missed Abu Dhabi though. Both were great days out sun, beer and great golf.

January would probably be your best time to come, you could get the 2 tournaments in (AD + DDC) and the weather is nicest for golf (gets too hot in summer) but is also high season and most expensive. Probably be around 150-200 for a round on any of the top courses. Although this will most likely be inclusive of gps buggy, range balls and strokesaver.

Best golf course out here is supposed to be Yas links (haven't had the chance to play it yet) but it got into the top 100 courses in the world after its first year in operation. Its on Yas island in Abu Dhabi. Other notable courses in Abu Dhabi are Abu Dhabi golf club (HSBC championship course) and Saadiyat Beach (Im currently working on a resort next to this and it looks beautiful)

In Dubai, there is Emirates which has 2 courses Majilas (DDC course) and the Faldo. Also the Montgomerie, Dubai Creek, Al Badia and Jumeirah golf estates (Race to Dubai course) are all meant to be excellent.

Unfortunatrly I havent yet played all of the above but hoping to get to all of them this year so can probably give you my personal opinion on them in the future.
