So took out some lukewarm water to defrost the front windscreen after which to my horror I realised the inside of the windscreen was frozen, had to use Ice Scraper to help clear the ice... ~What on earth may be the cause of that? ALL windows etc closed

Moisture inside the car... It's not that uncommon, so I wouldn't be getting too worried about it.

It wouldn't be a VAG by any chance would it?

Did you also pour water on the windscreen yesterday morning? Some water probably made it in the car then.

Its not too unusual.. Moisture trapped in the car will find the coldest surface to go to.. In this case it was the windscreen If it keep happening maybe get a small disposable dehumidifier under the seat or let the car clear in the evenings before you lock it up!

Yesterday and day before had some sunny periods heating the air inside the car. The almost instant cold when the sun drops makes the moisture condense on the windows. I had the same in my cars yesterday and ran a dehumidifier to mitigate.

It's normal but you don't usually get condensation like this because the conditions don't normally promote it.

You could of course have a leak somewhere which won't help.

edit: sorry, did't see neilthefunkeone's last post

Well my MkIV Golf used to suffer from it and I knew a couple of other people with Passat's/Golf's that has the same kind of issues. I think that era of VW's had a strange positioning of the Air filter, as it was right at the base of the windscreen and under the water run off tray.

Maybe we were just unlucky though. :)

More prone to leaks and wet carpets inside!

    It sound like a leak.

A quick fix to prevent this (and condensation building up in the car) is to clean the inside windows with isopropyl alcohol and a clean rag several times until the glass doesn't show your condensation from breathing on it.

Mines like that the last few mornings. I don't have any leaks but have been doing short journeys all week.

My last car, also a vag, used to get like this. It would usually be parked up for a couple of weeks at a time during the freeze last year and it always had moisture on the inside of the windscreen on my return. That was leak free too.

    No it doesn't.

This has been answered clearly above more than once, it's condensation from a sudden cooling of the car yesterday evening.

Wasn't that more related to the MK4 ?

I think there lies my main issues, Short trips and the car never getting the chance to clear itself. Was near your house again just a while ago. Must go back there tomorrow to collect my son.
