Leak from under glovebox to floor or passenger side

    Passat

When it rains I am getting a pool of water on the floor in the passenger seat.
It seems to be coming from underneath the glove box at the back where the electrics are.
There is also a build up of water underneath the battery.

Should I bring to a mechanic or does it sound like something easily fixed?

    Cheers

Plenty of info on the net about this triumph of German engineering. Sort it quick before it fecks the control modules on the floor....

It looks like you are spot on here from a good bit of reading.
I haven't got a clue about cars but I'll have a pop at this tomorrow and if no joy get it sorted somewhere on Monday.
Local garage said they wouldn't do it...

I took a lot of water out from under the battery and am keeping the passenger side dry. Hope there is no damage done there.

if you remove the battery and battery tray you will see the rubber grommet in there,i usually take it out and leave out as its not needed and will never block again.

That used happen on my Punto too. Behind the bulhead there is a rubber drain plug that lets out the water that runs off the screen. It often got blocked up with leaves and crud and sometimes in heavy rain it would flood the wiper motor and it would stop them until I got out and unclogged the drain.

My sister had a pasat too and it screwed her control module. VW cars are a piece of sh!t. Fact. absolute rubbish. VAG are trading on a reputation that is long gone, but for some reason lots of people buy them. It's now a well known fact that VAG cars are totally unreliable so I can't figure out why they sell:confused::confused::confused:

Just to let the OP know, this can be fixed for free under a VW recall campaign.Just ring the dealer with the chassis number and see if it is due for a recall. The ones in my brothers car are getting blocked and it has caused the brake servo to seize, causing the brakes to stick on.Its booked in with VW main dealer in the morning to have the modified grommets put in AND the brake servo unit changed (310 euro olus vat plus labour) FREE OF CHARGE :) Will update on this when its fixed..

IMHO MSL hate customers, love money. Having said that getting a recall on a 01 Passat, hmmm seems strange. I know when I contacted VW about my 03 3 years ago they were bleating that no recalls were due.
The recall that VW of America carried out on dangerous fuel line replacement wasn't honoured in Ireland. Also my Control module blew, the one under the passenger floor. I didn't bother calling VW about that, which I suppose is the intended result.

Module itself was about 350 lids with fitting came in just over 4.
Both keys need to be programmed. I got a crowd in town near harcourt street to fit. They had a good rep and I would add to it, traditional type garage and the fact that I didn't have to pay for the "Glass Palace" made me happy :-)
I can check the name of you want?
Zamboni, you need to check the air intake for the fan is not leaking. I refitted mine, got a new gasket and a dose of sealant for mine before getting the comfort module replaced. Check your sunroof drains as well.

is it handy to seal around the fan intake? I'm doing mine tomorrow

Hi lads, sorry for the late reply.Yep car WAS done under recall with Blackwater Motors in Cork.Dropped it thursday, collected it friday evening.Brand new brake servo fitted at no cost to us.Ring Blackwater motors and ask was there a recall campaign for plenum chamber grommet replacement.I think its easier for VW to pay 350 euro plus fitting for free than having a case come against them someone seriously injured or killed due to the brakes not working.By the way, Blackwater Motors were an absolute pleasure to deal with.
