Hi i am in receipt of rent allowance and i am renting a three bedroomed house in the fingal area, the rent is one thousand a month which is or rather was the limit for me. I know the new limit for a single parent with two children is now 825.This doesnt apply to me yet unless I move or Im reviewed but I imagine they are going to review everyone ASAP to get the costs down.I dont want to have to move but it is what it is my problem is that they have reduced the limits by so much I dont imagine my landlady nice as she is will be willing to reduce the rent by 175 euro and although Ive not yet been reviewed Ive been searching daft everyday to see what the situation is and you cant get a three bed for 825 anywhere in fingal. Id take a two bed flat and give my children the bedrooms and sleep in the sitting room but you cant even get a two bed at that price not even a kip!my options will be reduced to a one bedroom flat for myself my son and my daughter which would be a nightmare for anyone and I really dont think that with my sons and my own respiratory problems we would fare well.I just dont understand why fingal has been reduced so much compared with other areas when it will potentially cause homelessness or dangerous overcrowding?why fingal?

I can imagine it's though alright.

Before the budget Ronan Lyons did a chart showing how much the old rent allowance was compared to the market rates. Three beds in Dublin were the second lowest. Chart is here:
    http://www.ronanlyons.com/2011/11/29/rent-supplement-time-for-taxpayers-to-use-their-market-power/

They've cut your allowance from 1000 to 825 which is a 17.5% drop. That's pretty steep for an allowance which was already more than 20% below the market rate.

I'd say it's unlikely that your landlord does not know about the lower limit. Even if it is difficult to speak to your landlord, you have nothing to lose by trying to talk about it. The worst that can happen is that you come out in the same situation as you went in.

You're right though, there's only 3 properties with three or more beds on daft who specifically say they accept rent allowance and are asking less than 825 (at this time and) at this daft search link:
    http://www.daft.ie/searchrental.daft

You get some extra if you raise the max price to 850:
    http://www.daft.ie/searchrental.daft

Maybe try contacting them and telling them that the rent allowance has come down to 825 in fingal. Maybe they would be ok with going to 825 for you.

If you go to the south side, it's 925, where there is a bit more selection again:

    Best of luck!

yes those three houses are all very far from where I live now I could move to a different part of dublin to get the higher limits
but I will have to change my childrens schools and give up work as my parents help with childcare and can only do so as I live close enough to them :( The mad thing is if you check most other areas and countys new limits on daft there are a lot of properties to chose from fingal seems to be the only place there are very few if any options and Im sure Im not the only one in this situation I just dont know where they got their figures from ill try talk to my landlady if and when it will apply to me she is very nice but 175 euro less a month is a big ask
