Does anyone have any stats/info on which set of immigrants in this country claim the dole the most

I always thought the poles were hard working people who went home to poland if they couldnt find work here. but after hearing about the sponger from donegal thats obviously not true...the same is probably true for the other eastern europeans like the lithuanians, latvians, romanians etc.

A mate of mine from blanchardstown who is on the dole, told me that when he signs on at the welfare office that the vast majority of people signing on are africans..hes only been out of work 3 months but he is shocked by the huge number of black Africans signing on there

as for asians, im not too sure whether they mostly work or are on the dole. But in my line of work ive never ran into many of them and judging by going into bookies in my spare time, the south-east asians in particular dont seem to be up to much apart from betting away their dole money

So does anyone have any official numbers about the numbers of each nationality that claim the dole in this country? It would be interesting to know

Yeah apart from those moments you encounter them in the bookies they're not up to much.

No comprehensive country breakdown is available.

This is as much as we know in terms of information collected by the CSO

So you're basing your opinion of an entire nationality on one case of one individual which has extensively been proven to be pretty much completely made up on the thread which has been on the front page of AH all day?

    Good work.

As for the rest of the post, it's nonsense to me, intended to stoke up anti-immigrant feelings, or maybe air your own, and stereotype entire nationalities and races.

In 2009, I didn't find any current figures.
At the end of last year, just over 74,000 people were in receipt of rent supplement from the State. Now the figure has jumped by 23pc and stands at a record 91,000, the Department of Social Welfare confirmed yesterday.
Recent figures, compiled when there were 89,000 claimants, show that 32,000 -- more than one third -- are non-nationals.
They show 7,638 Poles, 2,886 Nigerians, 2,108 Lithuanians, 1,512 Romanians and 1,318 Latvians among the highest categories of non-nationals being paid the benefit. People from 163 countries and territories, excluding Ireland, get the rent supplement.

Oh and lock, try Irish Economy.
