I'm looking to change car as my '01 Mondeo Zetec is getting expensive to run, both service and petrol wise, and I'm looking for an alternative.

I'm looking for a saloon again as I work as an engineer and tend to throw a lot of gear in the boot and have grown used to the size of the mondeo. I'll be commuting from Dublin to Cork twice a week so I'll probably average around 25k miles a year.

With that mileage I want something not too thirsty, low enough mileage, maybe '08 oldest and have a budget of up to €14k at a push. Wouldn't mind if the car was nice to look at as well! My mondeo has 120k miles on the clock and the bodywork isn't great so the trade-in won't be massive if anything at all.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I liked the look of the Mazda6 but the troubles with the DPF have me nervous...

    Cheers

my grandfather has a vw jetta 2010 1.6tdi powerfull economical and nice to look at you should pick one up for 14k thats what i would recommend its 105bhp thats nice power good mpg not sure exactly what it does to the mile but ist very eco friendly also very comfortable best of luck

when i say you should get one for 14k it dont have to be a 10 thats just a number plate but you'll find one in the newer lower tax bracket

Would a hatchback not suit an engineer who regularly carries items in the boot? Other than that something like an Octavia Tdi would suit. Avensis is also a car I really like for some reason..:D

I used to be on the road as an engineer with a boot full of test sh1t and loads of other required crap, the saloon is ideal really I found :) 'twas a Mondeo I had too. If the large opening of the hatch isn't required obviously.

You'll get a nice 08 Honda Accord 2.2cdti for under that budget. By far one of the nicest diesel Saloons out there, and they give very little trouble, for a Diesel anyway!
