Guys I see this deal on Groupon today: link -

I have been saying I'm going to get Laser for ages, want to do it this year deffo. However I have never heard of these guys and wondering if anyone else has? If this is a real saving I'd just jump in and buy it now. Only thing I just need to make sure I'm getting the best type of surgery, I know there are a few different types and I don't want to get an inferior one if a better one is recommended to me.

What do you guys think is this worth buying?
    Thanks

    hey zascar,
Not going to be much help to you, but I am in the same boat. I had a consultation with optical express before ages ago but never got around to actually doing it, always reading horror stories online but then again I know a few people who got it done but thought it was great. anywho, have been looking into this company since I seen that groupon deal too but haven't had much luck in finding reviews or reports on them, Did you jump in and buy it?

I heard one bad report but I'm not sure I beleive it. Everything else online is fine. However I know a guy who works for groupon and he said they had lots of offers from some of the different companies but they only chose him despite having other cheaper packages etc - this is full waveform and no extras etc - he said its a no brainer so I think I'm going to go for it.

yea, found a few people mention them on here then and they seem positive, think i will go for it too! cheers!

Hi Zascar and Sdoc1, have been pondering the same offer for the last few days myself following an eternity of self promises to get laser surgery!!!

Did any of you take the plunge and sign up????

Offer ends shortly after midnight tonight so any extra info ye may have read or heard would be much welcomed before I click the button to commit later this evening.

    Thanks

Yep I did, booked in to have the surgery in a few weeks. Really liked the guy and happy with what I'm getting. Full wavefront so at €1899 its a no brainer, most people pay 3-4k for this...

yeah, I went ahead too.....appointment later today to assess my suitability. If I get the green light I will be going ahead with surgery next Wednesday! That's an "if" at the moment so I will report back on my experience of the consultation

From research (family and friends have gotten it done in other places), recovery varies person to person, so I doubt there's a set recovery time.

I got green light to go ahead for surgery nxt wednesday. Lasek will mean 4-5 days out of action following day of procedure and then back in for assessment....you wear a contact lense while recovering, sore eyes and bluriness can be expected. Other option ie lasik is invasive, involves cornea being cut but hes done thousands of these and recovery time is one day after op. Obviously theres more to it but on the day you will be in and out in an hour.

Consultant is very thorough and answers every question posed but if you need any more info from me just ask.

I'd be nervous too. I went there 2 weeks ago after seeing the "50% off" offer on a website. Turned out this is for the old-fashioned laser treatment that uses a blade to cut your eye. They don't even have the intralase laser. Also ask them about the "lifetime aftercare". It doesn't include any extra laser surgery treatments you might need which is the whole point of the lifetime package but you need to read through the fine print to get at that.
It all seems a bit desperate for me. You wonder if this clinic will even be around. I went to a different clinic and have booked surgery for next week. Best of luck to any of you who have already paid but I wasn't comfortable to trust my eyes there. Just my 2 cents

I found an interesting comparison between blade vs bladeless surgery on what appear to be a consumer website - here's the link http://www.allaboutvision.com/visionsurgery/blade-vs-bladeless.htm
and am quite happy to go ahead based on this clinic using the microkeratome blade as opposed to the Intralase method to create the corneal flap, the aftercare plan will be the clincher I think .....

Sorry but that is incorrect. It does include follow up surgery if you need it and the after care is excellent as far as I'm concerned. I'm a week in and very happy.

I'm sorry but you are wrong. This is taken from the fine print on the coupon website:

...Treatment is only suitable for people with a prescription of +4 to -8 dioptres or up to -3.00 dioptres of astigmatism. Please check before purchase • Surgery cannot prevent age-related vision deterioration. • Occasional side effects may include dry eyes, corneal flap implications, visual disturbances, or infections • Individual results may vary. • Lifetime Aftercare does not include re-treatments • ...

I bought the deal on Living Socials for EUR1899 and am having the Lasik monivison surgery on Wednesday 28th. I had an initial consulation after which I requested a second meeting with the consultant Mr John Fenton to have some more questions I had answered.

I was very happy with how he dealt with my many queiries, questions and concerns so I decided to proceed with the surgery. I'll post back with results on Thursday pg.

I'm a few weeks in now and my vision is better than it ever was with glasses. I was very happy with the whole thing, very quick, easy and trouble free. I'm surprised about the T's & C's mentioned above - but it's less than 1% of people who need retreatment.

    This is on Groupon again.
Do you really save that much by going via Groupon?
I'm down in Cork so dunno is worth the travel to Dublin for this.

I've been waiting for this deal to come up again as I decided I'd definitely go for the laser eye surgery this time round having put it off for years. For those that have gotten it done, did any of you suffer with dry eyes and can you claim the 20% back from Revenue? Also when I went for a consultation years ago I was told I was suitable for Wavefront. Does this guy do Wavefront Lasik & Lasek?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,494 ✭✭✭finbarrk

I just did one eye about 10 years ago. It's great. It was dry for about a month but eyedrops sort that out. I got some money back from revenue too. It cost around €2k at the time in the Matter private.

In my opinion, I'd avoid places like this if I were you. This place doesn't include the cost of any retreatments if you need it in the future so they are being extremely misleading when they say "lifetime guarantee". You must wonder what else they are being misleading on. The good laser eye clinics in dublin are the wellington, the matter and optilase (where i went).

I was told by 3 different consultants that the rate is 5-7%

Actually I was wondering this too. Can anyone confirm how you do this and what the rules are etc to claiming tax back on this? Can you get 20% back on the €1900?

i had my surgery about 5 years ago now - time flys when you've perfect vision :D - and i claimed the vat back with the med 1 form. the whole thing only cost ~€1000 in the end

I got my 20% back from revenue last week, it was great to get it. I had laser surgery done with optical express April last year, one of the main reasons I went with them was because there is a lifetime guarantee for any re-enhancement surgery and that they are an international franchise and I can be seen in any outlet worldwide. I had re-enhancement done on right eye last Nov and need it on left eye doing it in June, reason for extra surgery is that I was so blind they told me before hand I may need it. Right eye is now perfect and left eye is just -1.5, eyes were R-9.5 L-8, have found optical express brilliant and would recommend them to any one. I live in limk and had to go to cork for consultations and new bridge for surgery.

Do you have to wait until the end of the year to claim on the Med 1 or can you do it any time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,781 ✭✭✭clappyhappy

You have to wait till end of year, I sent away for it last summer but they sent it back saying apply again from 1st of Jan, had cheque within 3 weeks.

Hi lads, this is on dealrush now again, I am wondering if many more went with the last groupon?
als, was it the wavefront that is done on all, and just wondering if there was anyone unsuccessful that got a refund no problem?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29 emart100

Afaik its all wavefront. I got both eyes done with the groupon offer, and I was probably one of the unlucky ones in that the cornea of the left eye didnt settle properly. This left me with reduced vision in this eye but the aftercare was 100% and a follow up procedure has fully corrected the problem.

    Very happy with the outcome/professionalism/aftercare

There is no saving. The prices are more or less the same with optilase for standard LASEK/LASIK. Those voucher deals are a joke.
