    hi,

I currently use UPC for tv with the record box. I find myself watching repeats all the tim so I have decided to move to Free sat. Is it difficult to install and can I use the existing cabling that is there for UPC? What do I need to buy to get going?

    Thanks.

A good DIY video at the bottom of the satellite.ie link.

For Saorview you will need an aerial.
If you have a Saorview approved tv I would get a Freesat receiver.
Above links also shows DIY packages.

You may need to change the cable.

If you have a UPC cable socket (co-axial) in your TV room, and can access the UPC box outside the house, you should be able to run a cable from your new Satelliite dish to the UPC box, then connect it to the end of the cable that passes through the wall, with F-connectors

It may or it may not.
Sometimes you can check the cable by connecting the UPC cable to the satellite receiver (using F connectors) and then connect your satellite meter to the other end of the cable, power on your receiver and you should get a signal on your meter.
If you get a signal on your meter it may be possible to use the cable.
I don't know how good UPC cable is for satellite connection, you may have to run new satellite cable.

Unfortunately I don't work in the aerial/satellite industry nor do I have any connections, however if you contact either of the guys in satellite.ie (Tony), or Freesat.ie (Michael) they will give you the best advice.

Or maybe another boards member can give better advise than I on this matter.
