Pole On the Dole In a Hole Plays the Troll

    http://www.independent.ie/national-news/polish-waitress-packs-in-job-for-good-life-on-welfare-3005781.html

A POLISH waitress living here has sparked fury after she boasted about living the good life on Irish welfare benefits. 'Magda' (36), not her real name, described her life on the dole in Donegal as a 'Hawaiian massage'.

She revealed how she had packed in her job so she could spend her days walking along beaches with her partner.

He in turn bragged about the county's wonderful golf courses.

Magda claimed she earned €67 more a week on the dole than she did while working and that her welfare payments are €182 more every week than back in her native Poland.

The shocking boasts in a Polish newspaper have ignited another debate on welfare tourism, with one Labour senator last night offering to pay for her flight home.

The ex-waitress told the Polish newspaper 'Gazeta Wyborcza' that instead of working she takes advantage of free education courses and goes surfing.

"How do I live? Wonderfully. I get an allowance of €188 a week plus €59 for the flat. In the winter I get an extra €20 for fuel. It's €267 a week," she said.

Magda doesn't identify the town in Co Donegal where she lives but she does call it a "s***hole".

Man it's going to be an awkward couple of weeks for all the Poles in Donegal, as everyone tries to figure out who "Magda" is.

She must be a bit dim to go to the press actually boasting about it tho. Is this the price we have to pay to ensure that families in genuine need of help get it? Or should needy families go without to ensure we don't fund lifestyles like this? (Nationality irrelevant, btw)

Edit: Bit of balance, from Volthar:

    Volthar wrote: »
Original article in the Polish newspaper, although it angered all working Polish that I know, also mentioned that it was Social Welfare officer that encouraged "Magda" to stay on benefits for another 6 months so she can claim back to work allowance scheme. Aparently the girl was almost ready to open her own massage / spa studio. Here comes "Hawaiian massage" to play. The context was that one of the things that she is qualified in is amongst other therapies the said type of massage.

Also expression "sh..t hole" had a totally different meaning... all she said is "Donegal is a county on the north end of Ireland - for some the most beautiful place in the world, for the others a sh..t hole. You can find everything here but jobs. Half population of Donegal emigrated, the other half is on dole."

Independent's re-print also fails to mention savings that the girl makes in order to start own business.

    Shame on you Independent!

Edit two: Indo have now withdrawn the story: (original url links to this text: )
YESTERDAY'S story about a Polish woman living on welfare payments in Ireland sparked much discussion and controversy.

Some parts of the original interview, on which the story was based, were inaccurately translated.

You can read a fuller version of the interview with 'Magda', written by journalist Katarzyna Brejwo, here.

She must be truly lazy when she could just as easily claim the same amount by flying here regularly whilst working and living back home.

Do they still have that rule about returning Irish being unable to claim?

If she's walking along beaches with her partner, when she's supposed to be working, would it be safe to guess he's on the scratcher as well ?

I thought we had a six month rule where you had to be paying tax in the state to claim the dole.

A comment on the indo site says that the original article (in a Polish newspaper) has a bit on how she was instructed on how to claim by an Irish person.

I say we round up all the Poles and ride them!

My pole in there hole pumping like a mole that is partial to bowls and they will then feel cajoled to quit claiming the dole.

At the end of the day, all things are relative, and Magda's life is not all that luxurious. It certainly is a lot better than she is probably used to in Poland, but she is still getting only about €1,000 a month. She is fortunate to be able to live relatively inexpensively and has nice beaches to walk along. Just a pity the fresh air, clean environment and attractive scenery do not inspire some noble thoughts in her.

And yet her life can't be all that wonderful if she has to go on living in a place she considers a shithole. Or does that mean she is just passing through?:D:D

As to the question in the OP, yes, unfortunately, this is the price we have to pay to ensure that many families in genuine need do not suffer unnecessarily.

There are people like Magda everywhere, and if a leech like her wasn't sponging off the system here, she'd probably be doing it at home in Poland - where there is even less fat on the bone for her to gnaw on and where her greed would impact even harder on people who are worse off than any in Ireland.

I wonder does she have any idea - or care at all - how much prejudice she is stirring up against all those Poles who are working hard here, paying their taxes and generally making a positive contribution to Irish society? Now they will have to take a slagging, and perhaps face even more unpleasant consequences, and I fear the kind of Irish people who will seize on Magda's idiotic boasting to reinforce their own xenophobia and envy will not get it when the hard-working Poles point out that she - like some Irish people as well - will act like leeches no matter what country they are in.:)

I also find it irresponsible that Polish media give publicity to this one fool who brings shame on her compatriots.

I hope the Polish community soon find out who she is and treat her to a large Cracow salami - rammed into her rotten pizda!

Can't seem to quote it properly but this is my favourite line of the whole article
with one Labour senator last night offering to pay for her flight home.

"How do I live? Wonderfully. I get an allowance of €188 a week plus €59 for the flat. In the winter I get an extra €20 for fuel. It's €267 a week," she said.

I admire her spirit though. She is happy with the amount the government gives her, says its a fortune, even goes to the national newspapers about her good fortune.

She does not moan she is not getting more

I have tried to leave a comment under the article on Independent.ie to clarify the situation. No abusive language... just the plain translation from the original article in the polish newspaper. 1 hour later... my comment still not published.

Shouldn't be that hard to track her down, afaik all SW Claims are coded when set up e.g. what was claimant doing prior to signing on - Working (35) : occupation - Waiter/Waitress (72). I'm sure a scan of all claims by the Local Offices in Donegal (if they choose to do so) could show what Female Polish claimant fits these codes and mobilise the inspectors.

Sure it smacks of racial profiling and will be a mjor inconvenience to other genuine polish claimants who are lieuing to work but hey, she started it.

Has to be Buncrana, that's a wild auld hole of a place :D

Senator Jimmy Harte told the Irish Independent: "This woman is doing an enormous disservice to the Polish community in Co Donegal and to other hard-working non-nationals.

"She has clearly taken advantage of Irish hospitality. I would like to see her go back to Poland and if we can find out who she is, I'd gladly pay for her flight home."

He added: "Apart from her clear intent to take advantage of our social welfare system, to describe her home as a s***hole just adds insult to injury."

But....................why wouldn't she take advantage, she'd be fairly stupid not to, I can't understand his reasoning, she's claiming what's rightfully hers. What does the senator think of all of the Irish people taking advantage of the 'system', what does he think about the ESB guy who retired recently with a party in a 5 star hotel with the biggest payout in the state ??!! fcekin gobshiite.

She probably earns extra giving massage at home with happy endings '-) It just proves how over paid single people on the Dole are in Ireland .When i was last in Ireland in 2008 i lived quite well myself on 100 euros a week from savings .I did not want to go on the Dole .

I would be very suspicious of anything thats feed to the Indo. Tony Reilly is the Governments bitch, the Indo only ever says what the Government wants.

And back to work allowance hasn`t existed since 2009 so not factually correct anyway.

And Magda`s not a dumb ass look at the number of massage places that have closed and people don`t have money for it anyway. She would be offering this service at home I`m sure if the business was there to be had in which case she`s earning extra income.

Look the Irish dole heads are just as bad but i've met countless eastern europeans who can't believe their luck getting money for nothing here more than twice the wage they would get at home for doing a weeks work. The system is a sham of the highest order.
