Trying to book a return Dublin to Carrick on Shannon for the week after next.
All the return journeys are showing up as not reservable. For every day of the week.

Either there's some massive week long event in Dublin I don't know about, or the website's not working.

I've a horrible feeling it's because Carrick isn't a station you can book an online journey starting from, but it's never been an issue booking a return before. Anyone else had a similar issue?

I looks like they wont allow you book any ticket from Carrick-on-Shannon at all not even as part of a return journey!

might be because of the planned fare increases next week

This may be down to there being no ticket vending machine in C-o-S. While I'm not sure that it is an acceptable reason, it seems to be the logic in use at the moment.

Indeed you can book a ticket to Carrick-on-Shannon but not one from the station. the same results appear for tickets to and from Collooney, Dromod, Edgeworthstown, Enfield, Kilcoole, Muine Bheag, Thomastown, and others!
Train tickets can be collected at any train station using the Automatic Ticket Machines; except the following: Arklow, Attymon, Birdhill, Broombridge, Cahir, Carrick-on-Shannon, Carrick-on-Suir, Carrigaloe, Castleconnell, Clonmel, Cloughjordan, Cobh, Collooney, Dromod, Edgeworthstown, Enfield, Fota, Foxford, Kilcoole, Monasterevin, Muine Bheag, Nenagh, Rathdrum, Rosslare Europort, Rosslare Strand, Roscrea, Rushbrooke, Thomastown, Tipperary, Woodlawn (Station list valid December 2011)

You've never been able to buy a single from Carrick due to the lack of a vending machine there.

My problem now is that under the new system I can't book a return ticket *to* Carrick from Dublin, because the system is showing every train on the return leg as not bookable.

Sent them an e-mail on Monday querying the situation, didn't even get as much as an acknowledgement. Just checked again and the situation is still the same, except the fares on the Dublin-Carrick trains have since all gone up.

It's typical of Irish Rail to spend money on a website that simply doesn't work, put it live without doing basic testing, and ignore customer complaints. Maybe in 3 months when they're trying to work out why no-one ever gets the train to Carrick any more they'll work it out, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I've had enough of their rubbish, I'll just drive from now on.
