Lets say I have 100k to Invest (Purely Hypothetical), what would your advice be. I don't have any loans or mortgage to pay and I would be looking for a short term return ie:6 months to a year. Any suggestions.......

Well I think a fixed term deposit account would be the best option in this case.

Oil, gas, gold and silver. Simple!

Cheers guys, I think Gold has gone about as high as it can for the time being though. I reckon silver might be a good bet. I recently bought some but I think thats a long term investment. Oil on the other hand could be a winner.

I'd dedicate maybe 10% of that 100k to buying silver on dips and selling on rallies, make its volatility work for you, I'd be weary of silver as a long term buy and hold investment though, its also used as an industrial metal, if it gets too expensive an alternate metal will be found, if such a metal exists that is. That's not the case with gold

There is no guaranteed short term return unless you use a saving acc ect. Long term save yourself a lot of heartache and learn about passive index investing. If you want to speculate on commodities be prepared for the possibility of significant losses.
