Mares Reg for cold water & BC

    Hi all,

To follow up on an earlier thread of mine regarding servicing, does anyone know if the MARES brand of regs and BC's can be serviced in Ireland.

Currently in the US until the end of the year, and would like to purchase while here. I would like to take them back with me to Ireland, as selling them here would lose me 50%.

Finally, can anyone recommend a decent cold water reg (preferably Mares too).

    Thanks!

The Abyss is a pretty good choice.
I'm a bit unsure of the newer models. I know that they have a specific cold water version of it.

You should be able to get it serviced but being honest it would be far easier to get a Scubapro or Apeks serviced.
All Apeks regs (I stand to be corrected on this) would be considered to be coldwater regs.

I have dived with Mares for most of my diving career and really like them, but they aren't cheap and are usually much more expensive to get serviced.

If you are getting a reg in the states, just make sure it has a CE stamp on it (Mares will). You may have difficulty getting a non CE approved regulator serviced.

    Thanks for the reply!

The reason I was going to stay away from Apeks was that my friend owns a dive store here, but he is not an authorised Apeks dealer.

To be honest, I didn't realise that Scubapro could be serviced easily here.
The prices on them here in the US are just too good to pass up, especially as I plan on doing a load of dives before I go back to Dublin in October.

Surprisingly (or not) drysuits in Arizona are much more expensive than in Ireland.

What drysuits are you looking at? Probably won't recognise any of the brands anyway but just thought I'd ask. If it's somehting like DUI, they will cost you a fortune no matter where you are buying them.

A lot of the "better value" drysuits over this side of the pond are rubbish suits IMO. I reckon to get a quality suit you will need to be paying @800+ euro mark.

Some drysuit divers will crucify me for saying that and will say how good this suit is for this price etc etc. But I have to say that any of the cheaper suits that I have owned, I would hardly get the season out of them.

I'd recommend O'Three suits if you are considering buying one, not sure if they are available that side of the pond.

    + 1 for O'Three

They are coming to the CFT dive show in the City North Hotel
    on 3/4th March.
You would def get better value with show prices there
