Panel Beating Job

Talking to a guy yesterday who has an 11plate ix35 exec version with all the toys and he had just had an argument with a pretty viscious bolard. Ripped the front passenger wing and door - pretty nasty as not just dent but cut metal. He wanted to get it fixed quick and rang a back street juy he had used in past for older cars who quoteed him €350 all in. I have see his work in the past and although it was on poor quality cars I wouldn't be very happy giving a new car to him for this kind of work.

Anyone think this is a reasonable idea? I tried to say to him, its a new car get a pro job done on it as if it doesn't turn out perfect it will spoil the car for you! Maybe Im wrong here and the guy converned will do every bit a good job. Maybe I shouldn't pre-emp the outcome.

When it comes to body work on cars ya pay for what ya get.

For €350 i'd imagine you'd take the bad look off it.

why are you concerned about somebody elses business?

is it your ix35 and your unsure if you want to spring for the full price of repairs.

on such a new, quality car, torn metal should really warrant a new panel, and i'd imagine for 350 euro your going to end up with a car full of fillers.

Relax will you. .. I was asked an opinion and gave it yesterday and out of interest I asked for an opinion here today. Simple genuine concern and interest. That's all. Didn't realise showing an interest required producing the chq book. If I knew such a request would have annoyed you so much I surely would have refrained!

jaysus your very tender about it altogether.

350 would hardly cover the paint and consumables to repair two torn panels.

That's what I thought but his view was if he went to a pro it would be likely subbed to this type of guy anyway .. so no difference. If it was me and the nature of the damage I'd reskin but that view is given at the risk of being asked to mind my own business or stump up the cash (by the way not from the owner)!

Listen Monday morning .. and anyway I misread your post:)

No its not my ix35 because if it was I certainly wouldn't be going down his route .. Pity as I think he will be sorely disappointed with result .. as you say would hardly cover materials

As a matter of interest .. the guy got his car back €360 all in. Had a quick look at it and it seemed fine. Couldn't make out where the work was done. Was a dull afternoon so will have a look at it on a bright sunny day to see if any blotches .. All in all I'd go to this guy if I had a bit of minor work to do .. especially with a older car
