I have a 00 car. I've been told by a number of people to drive the crap out of it prior to its test in the morning by doing 70mph in 3rd gear on the motorway to get rid of all the shite (not sure of the technical word :D) in the exhaust so that it would be good and warm for the emissions test.

Is this correct? I'd have asked in AH but.... :pac:

So would spending half an hour driving the school run beforehand be enough?

It should be enough to drive it for half an hour or so before the test. If you like, just give a run up and down the gears once it's warmed up.

Once its up to normal operating temperature(which it has to be to be tested) then if its in proper working order, it will pass.

The nct test center only floor diesel cars to get proper readings from it so if you own a petrol car no need to worry about them ruining your car.Best have the engine warmed up anyway for safety .

My thanks to all of you. I drove around for half an hour. I don't know if that had anything to do with it but it PASSED. I'm so relieved and delighted. :D:D
