Hope this doesnt start a row :o

I just want to say right up front that this is the first time I have ever done this. Its not something Ive made a habbit out of...... yet.

I was out last night and shot a rabbit, Id normally go for a headshot, but as you know... $hit happens. And the shot went low and left and it turned out to be a body shot.

SO I ran up to finish her off and I could see she was dying. She wasnt struggling and didnt seem to be in any pain, and I dont know why, but I decided to turn the light off and I walked back a couple of yards, waited for about a minute.... went back over and she was dead.

I was thinking about it afterwards and I think I did the right thing.

Yeah **** happens. Thats why I always keep my rifles zeroed and check them before I go out with them. But still human error sometimes causes a misplaced shot, its all part of it. Personally I always keep em in the scope and if its not a clean kill Ill send another to make sure.
Often thought it would be handy to have a air handgun for dispatching a critically wounded quarry, but thats not gonna ever be the case in this country.

Seriously? LMFAO a rabbit..... Just break it's neck if it's not dead, such cruelty

A simple good blow to the back of the head with a stick or your knife handle or the flat of your palm,if you have done some martial art training sorts out that ethical and conscious debate.;)

It would be more helpful that handguns were allowed for humane dispatch of bigger more dangerous game here in this land of ours, than a rabbitt.[Unless its the famous Monthy Python killer rabbitt!]..But seeing the PTB's and a good few hunters disagreed with it here ...It certainly wont happen.

I think you's are missing the point a wee bit lads. Im not asking how do you finish them off. That is not a problem for me. Ive lost count on the amount of rabbits that Ive broke their necks.

But Im starting to think now, if it that was me after getting shot and I was lying there with only a minute or two of life left, I think Id rather just die... "peacefully" (for want of a better word)- then to be scooped up and have my neck broke.

Just wondering what everybody else thinks.

Man up and snap its neck. Bit of blood on your hands won't hurt you :D

No offence but if that issue is playing so much on your mind ....take up another sport !

Once its been shot and not dead theres nothing peaceful about the way its dying. Finish it, rabbit or any animal for that matter. Its about being humane. And if its a rabbit you can break its neck well and good. If not or if its a bigger animal use another bullet. Simple. I dont think it needs to be debated.

The discussion of ethics or morality of hunting/shooting as a whole is not permitted on this forum. We tried to allow them before, but they always ended in disaster.
