Have skied, badly, a couple of times. But the last year we went was 2008, anyone have helmets become mandatory since then in Austria?:p

Only or ski school kids but a lot of people wear them saved my head a couple of times last week!

Usually for children. Ski school demands them, and I've seen resorts that won't let under 16s on the lift if they are not wearing them. Still optional for adults, but becoming more popular.

If nothing else, they're warm and save you getting bashed on the head by speedy chairlift guards.

Quick update, we're here in Filzmoos and roughly 90% of the skiers are wearing helmets, not mandatory, but it seems most people are opting for them :p

they are mandatory for me after my "debate" with a piste marker last year.
I won, even though i broke my goggles... the marker was broke in half.

^ You won the debate but still felt that the piste marker made some valid points in the argument that were worth considering. :D

I was glad of mine after gliding up to a piste map for a look, not realising it dips slightly right in front of it, tips of skis hit the soft barrier I went straight over and smacked the front of my helmet off the wooden top of the barrier! I was fine but my pride was severely injured by the fact that everyone witnessed it!

Just on the above guys, if your brain bucket (Helmet) takes as beating make sure you check it both inside and out for signs of damage cracks or weak points.

Because if there is all ready one there next time will not be so pleasent.

The way I see it I wouldn't get on a bike without a helmet and I have a hell of a lot more control cycling than I have on skis!

Who says helmets don't work! This is the result of a fall in a half pipe from a pro friend of mine she is fine, helmet not so much!
