First, i'd get your owner to teach you about punctuation and grammar.

Not everyone can read and write or even had the time to go to school, give the person a break for god sake, we're on a forum not at grammar class's, its hard enough for a person in their later years to learn to read and write, let alone get their grammar correct as well.

They can read and write. They're on a forum.

    It's called a joke.

    Removed.

Yes to you it might be one big joke, what about the person posting the question, if all you can do is criticise people for their spelling and grammar best off not replying at all, there are lots of people out there struggle with reading, writing and grammar but do their best with what they have, nobody likes a smart a**e like yourself pointing out their mistakes.

Think of the person's feelings before criticising them.

The best drug dogs usually have to be hyper and like games. They get rewarded for finding the drug with their favourite toy. If you watch the ozzy customs show you see it happening. As soon as they find something they get thrown the toy and run off. So the training would have to consist of associating the toy and the game with the finding of the smell.

    Hi Niceday7,

From what you are describing it sounds more like Revenue Customs dogs who use various passive dog breeds to detect drugs, tobacco & large quantities of cash.

The Airport Police Dog Unit (APDU) use General purpose police dogs trained in line APCO/Home Office Guidelines and are used for supporting general airport policing operations, patrolling outlying lands, tracking persons and public order incidents on Aircraft if required.

To join the APDU you have to be a serving Police Offier in the Airport Police Service and served a minimum period of frontline service before applying for a position when one becomes available. You then have to compete around 10-14 weeks training to become a qualified police dog handler along with your new K9 partner.

Let me apologise if I offended you.

I have removed my joke, but the only person who complained about it has chosen to leave it on the thread. Your English is excellent and is better than a lot of people who use it as their first spoken language.
My Slovak is pretty poor at the best of times.

Its a joke, he removed it....build a bridge, it wasn't even aimed at you.

A thought crossed my mind while reading the article as above. I noted that the dogs cn be used for crowd control and pursuing a criminal.

If this was an article on AGS dog units this would not have even entered my mind but as these officers are Airport Police and not Gardai, could they get into big trouble if a dog which they set on someone actually did bite someone?

good question. As far as I'm aware they have the powers of AGS within the Airport boundary, but I'm not too sure how far those powers extend into that situation.

Exact same circumstances of use as a Garda dog or one used by Prison Service. Same as if a garda deployed a dog once justified be it in defence of himself or a another or to capture a criminal.

The APDU has statutory exemption under the S.I. No. 442/1998: CONTROL OF DOGS REGULATIONS, 1998 same as the Garda Dog Unit.

It's a form of deterant just as an ASP would be.. It brings another level to the conflict management system you can employ in policing an incident.

@BX19 the Airport Police operate off their own legislation which comes from various sections of the Aviation & Airport Acts 1936-2004. These powers also apply to Gardai and can be used on any buildings, lands, roadway,
air navigation structure etc.. belonging to the DAA or the Minister for Transport.
