Imagine the scenario: Enda (abroad) points his fingera at the Irish public for the 'mess' !!
Enda pats this guy on the back and hands over our money !!

Ex-ESB chief Padraig McManus gets €800,000 package
FORMER ESB boss Padraig McManus is getting a retirement package worth up to an estimated €800,000 this year -- and he will also be entitled to cut-price electricity.

Mr McManus (60) will enjoy the controversial perk despite getting an exit package which includes a lump sum of almost €600,000 and a pension of €200,000 a year.

Pension experts said his severance entitlements may be among the highest ever paid in the state sector.

The former energy chief, who was the highest paid semi-state worker, retired before Christmas after 38 years at the utility company, not long after electricity prices shot up by 12pc.

A party was held in the Cellar Bar at the five-star Merrion Hotel in Dublin just over a week ago on Thursday to mark his retirement and former ministers Noel Dempsey and Eamon Ryan were among the guests. A presentation was made to Mr McManus, whose salary was more than €400,000 a year, at ESB head office earlier on the same day.

Well we did elect them, and put FF back in government despite the benchmarking debacle. Once we did that they knew they could get away with anything as far as pay and conditions for themselves and their cronies were concerned.

well I certainly hope he at least has to pay the 1% income levee. that'd show him

It was probably in his contract. He has been in that position since 2002.
The next guy won't get the same package.

ESB have been really successful- unlike the banks- and look at their CEO's retirement packages!

Good lord - "we" did not elect them!!! A majority did but not all, so why put it FF-voting on all our shoulders?!

I'm surprised at Eamon Ryan, but it's his personal life, none of our business.
I just didn't think that kind of knees-up would be his scene, especially considering his fragile political career.

So 'we' the electorate didn't elect them? Sorry I must have got that wrong.

Just 2 more snippets from the article:
A total of €200,000 of the lump sum is tax-free
Sources added that Mr McManus also qualifies for a discount on his electricity bill given to retired and existing staff. It is estimated that the perk is worth up to €470 a year to each of the 7,000 retired ESB workers.

    2 words, 'French Revolution'

Yeah, and spending it on ridiculous perks like cheap electricity for staff.

How much of a dividend have they paid to the state, their shareholder, in the last 10 years?

Things would be pretty bad if they couldn't make money, seeing as every house needs electricity

Maybe, but Fine Gael have already ignored their own cap on salaries and handed huge pay increases to some of their 'advisors'.. they're spineless hypocrites.

How can they justify a payout like this when the country is spending too much. This is coming out from the public purse and a 800,000 euro package and a pension of 200,000 a year at the age of 60 is far too much for anybody when the state is broke.

Might as well add another thing that Enda should get the blame for, based on the logic of the posters for the last couple of days.

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2012/0127/adobe.html

"US technology giant Adobe is to base the European side of its new cloud-based service in Ireland.
Adobe Chief Technology Officer Kevin Lynch told RTÉ News that its new Creative Cloud service would be hosted in Dublin when it launches later this year.
Mr Lynch made the comments following a 30-minute meeting with Taoiseach Enda Kenny on the margins of the World Economic Forum in Davos."

Oh, sorry, is this thread and the many Enda Kenny threads in the last couple of days only for hysterical daily mail standard of debate and begrudging?

People really do need to get a grip on themselves. They wont show 1% of the emotion they showed for his pretty accurate comments about borrowing money earlier in the wekk, for some actual good news about investment...but hey, let the childish overreactions continue!

That's great news to be fair. It's also another reason not to change our Corporation tax.
Its Irish-registered Adobe Software Trading Company, which acts as a holding company for many international subsidiaries, reported revenues of €1.1bn in 2009 and a net profit of €384.5m.
Adobe Systems Software Ireland currently employs 94 people in Ireland.
Adobe's Vice President Bill Rusitzky said it was too early to say how many new jobs would be created by the new "hosted services".

I wonder how many staff they'll take on, hope it's not just a move to avail of generous tax breaks.

    Agreed about the corporation tax.

No I don't think it would be regarding our tax breaks, cloud computing storage is perfect for Ireland as the climate is ideal, the workforce is skilled and we are competitive and have great infrastructure. So this is an investment which will create employment.

I didn't. I voted for the candidate I chose because of this...

"We would instigate immediate ratification of the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). Eradication of corruption would be a high priority with severe penalties, including jail, loss of job (without a golden handshake) and loss of all pension entitlements."

    and this...

"We seek accountability from those developers bankers and politicians who precipitated and facilitated the collapse of our national economy and we demand extradition and trial for former politicians and banking officials who remain in hiding at home and abroad."

I plan to vote for them again

Ergo the reason we are borrowing 400m a week. What a great little gravy train this country is for a select few. While the rest foot the bill.

People are right to point the finger of blame at Kenny.

If he wants, he can tax the f*ck out of gross pensions like this.

    But he won't.

Oh, he'll be happy. Sure only a few months ago the Government cut the electricty units allowed to invalids by 25%, yet this guys is now entitled to 55% off his bi-monthly bill, up to a limit of 1,000 units. When the cold snap hits next weekend, i'll be comforted in the knowledge that he won't have to make a choice between heat or food.

Every government we've had for the last 20 years, and probably longer, has been a shower of self serving ****. They made my country unfit for me to live in, which is why I'm posting this from Australia, and for that reason I hope they all fucking die slowly and painfully.

And thats my point. Given the size of his pension why should he get 55% off his electric bill, when this Government, who pledged to protect the most vunerable in society, see fit to cut the free allowance to the disabled by 25%.

He had a job, presumably did it with dinstinction and like most well paying jobs is retiring with a decent salary. Because the country is up the swanny he should be booted out on 200 a week?

Out of curiousity Im sure some of the moaners here have a civbil employed parent. Should they get their retirement slashed?

He is getting a massive pay out but cest la vie, Im sure it was in a contract signed in the boom years. Just because vast swathes of the Irish public fcuked up their own country borrowing like idiots this guy should take a cut in his pension?

Ah, enda - you're at it again.
People can only borrow like idiots, when banks lend like idiots. Now, enda damo which end of that spectrum had a highly paid army of regulators, paid from tax payers money to ensure they followed sensible rules, and which end were just trying to put roofs over their heads?
Which end do you think should have been better informed and better behaved than the other?
Which end do you think should carry the bulk of the blame?
Also, enda damo it wasn't really people buying houses that fúcked us up now was it, it was anglo, the bank you enda promised to stop pumping our money into before the election.
Remember before the election? You were enda was very different then!
