I notice in wage i was paying more tax then last year so i rang the tax office they hold that in 2009 i claimed socail welfare of 700 euros this is right was out of work for a few weeks. The lady told me because of this i was over due tax of 317 euros which was news to me they said letter was sent out but i never got them.
Is this right paying tax from back in 2009 which i didnt know i had to pay why didnt they take the tax back then.

Jobseekers Benefit is a taxable source of income. It is up to the individual to advise Revenue that they are in receipt of it. If you underpaid tax because of it, you are due to repay the tax either by a reduction in your tax credits, payment by cheque or depending on the amount due, it will be offset against future refunds.

    thanks for the response

yes but since 2009 i have been in employment since then have been to the tax office when i started to sort out tax credits because i was in collage up till then and i was working two jobs while in collage. so when i started this present job i moved tax credits over so it should have been spotted then not 3 years later.

Its just a pain paying tax the all my life then because i was out of work for a bit i have to pay it now.

i pitty the guy up the road from me that hasnt worked a day in his life has thirteen children (that my tax is helping him in his life) if he ever starts to work. its a shame the way ireland is at the moment
