A strange one, Sometimes i can drive for 3 or 4 km's and then the both rear brakes come on, thus slowing car down and discs get red hot. Its a 04 Alfa 156. If i pull over and pour water on them to cool down, i can carry driving on with no problems. This happens intermittently and not every time i drive?

Bring it to a garage as soon as you can, you shouldn't be driving a car around with a problem like that.

Yeah I was planning to take it to a garage, but see the thing is it only happens occasionally. I was hoping to get some pointers on what i could have a look at myself to see what could be causing this. I gathered as its happening to both rear brakes, it could be a handbrake cable problem?

Are they sticking on, or do they come on by themselves? Could just be the guides on the pads. Might just need some copper grease. After owning a 156 for several yearsmysf, it's probably something more substantial tho!

They come on (Bind) by themselves every now and then. Its not a permanent thing.
