New cheap rig

Hey, have a mate who wants to play the new star wars mmo. He was goina go to pc world to buy a pc but I told him he wouldnt have a hope of gettin somethign decent for 400 euro which is all he has at the moment so.....
1. What is your budget? 400 euro
2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Playin SWTOR
3. Do you need a copy of Windows? No
4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? I can loan him a graphics card if we cant fit one into budget
5. Do you need a monitor? Maybe a cheap 2nd hand one.
6. Do you need any of these peripherals? No will be able to pick up a mouse and keyboard and stuff like that myself for him
7. Are you willing to try overclocking? No
8. How can you pay? Credit Card/Laser
9. When are you purchasing? ASAP
10. If you need help building it, where are you based? Il be able to build for him

The min specs for the game arent much so hopefully should be able to get one built under budget
SWTOR MIN SPECS
OS - Windows XP, Vista/7
CPU - AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4000+ or better Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 2.0GHz or better
RAM - Windows XP: 1.5GB Windows Vista and Windows 7: 2GB PCs using a built-in graphical chipset, 2GB RAM recommended.
Video - ATI X1800 or better* nVidia 7800 or better* Intel 4100 Integrated Graphics or better*
DVD-ROM - 8x or better *Minimum of 256MB of on-board RAM and Shader 3.0 or better support.

Can't fit a graphics card in on that budget but the integrated graphics will be able to run the game on low to medium settings depending on the resolution. The integrated graphics are the same that are on the i7-2600.

Left the DVD-drive out since you mentioned you might have one, even if you just take it from another computer while installing Windows 7 or install using a USB you can get by without a DVD drive.

You could probably pick up a cheap enough monitor on adverts.ie for 60 quid.

thats with DVD drive + nice GPU, bigger hdd. it will be able to run more then SWTOR. that game looks amazing, it would be a shame to run it on low settings with integrated GPU.

over budget, i know, but it is well worth it.

That seems like a decent card alright. Gone a bit over budget but tbh id recommend having a decent graphics card too. Il see what he says.

Id be a bit iffy buying a second hand card. Is there a way to properly check them? I have a decent nvidia card here that will work for about a half hour no problem but after that lines appear in the screen, id be afraid something like that'd happen!!

Edit: Decon are you 100% sure about that psu? Only 350w. If he were to upgrade his GPU in a year or two would he need to get a new PSU also?

Depends on what he wanted to upgrade to. If thats a plan then I would go for this one instead:

True, it's hard to be 100% sure about buying stuff second-hand! I think most people are decent enough when it comes to that sort of thing though (maybe I'm too trusting)

Hey guys. Think he is goina go with decons build with the more powerful psu. Just goina double check tomorrow and make sure everything is compatible but it looks like it is to me.

Just wanna say thanks to every one for their input!

Oh one last thing. Has any one ne experience ordering from hardwareversand.de? How long is the expected delivery? Are they ok for returns?

Delivery took about 3 days, but that is after the bank transfer clears - which can take 2-5 days.

Hey, the wait is the exciting bit right?

I haven't had to return anything to them (touch wood) but it seems straightforward enough from what people say on here. One or two bad stories, but you get that with every company.

That's the snag with HWVS. Actually, you should be able to pay with PayPal up to €500, but there is an extra charge - I've forgotten the exact figure now. Bank transfer isn't as bad as it sounds.

Bank transfer takes 30 seconds if you have online banking btw. If you want I could spec a build from scan or dabs, you can pay with a credit card there but it will work out a bit more expensive.
