Actually quite an interesting relic and a surprisingly sane and sober news piece by fox news which has got to be a miracle right there.

Thanks Doc. Fox is actually a good station but like the other networks you cant put your full stock in anything Politics related.

A fascinating reliquary alright, this article has the behind the scenes story, also a picture that you can zoom in on.

I'd love to be the investigator tracing this one!

Thanks for that article Doc. It does look like a wonderful reliquary.

I'm probably not the only one here thinking this but......how..on.....EARTH did they lose this gift by the Pope in the first place? and over a CENTURY a go? who takes a reliquary like that and just sticks it in the cellar of a convent?

It amazes me how they could have lost this relic and displays the height of disrespect to the Hierarchys supreme gift that should have been taken care of. :(

Yeah it is sad that is just got put into a box with a note and forgotten about for over a hundred years. Atleast it was found and is now being displayed in the Church. If I'm ever in NY again I might take a trip to Buffalo and see if its on display.

I don't believe for a second that it contains pieces of the seamless garment or the crown of thorns, but the reliquary itself is a beautiful piece of work.

It looks beautiful. No doubt they will check the Vatican records to find out if it was given as a gift and to whom!

They probably will. It was a gift to a new Bishop in Buffalo IIRC. Doc's link is good in filling in those details.

It shows no disrespect at all. It was taken care of perfectly. Simply too perfectly! Unlike the fate of Francis Xavier and his little toe!
