Audi - Vosa Recall????

    Hi All,

I've recently bought a 2004 Audi A3 1.9tdi. I have since discovered that my vehicle was subject to a safety recall on the flywheel (fire hazard) through the VOSA website, link as below

    http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/searches/expand.asp?uniqueID=5FF5D8EF81DF8844802571150042291D&freeText=Blank&tx=

Although my VIN number falls within the effective range according to this VOSA recall, Audi Ireland state that my car is not, nor ever has been subject to such a recall.

I obviously want to get this checked, and as it is a design flaw, Audi should cover the costs.

Has anybody any advice or had similar experiences?

    Thanks

Go to a Audi dealer in the North to get it sorted..

The VOSA only have regularity authority in the UK.

Unfortunatly, Ireland does not seem to have a body like this. ( NCA OR RSA)

As Corkie said, a phone call and then trip to an Audi dealer in the North would be to your advantage if the said work has not been carried out.

Not all recalls carried out in the UK were done on this side of the water. This particular recall sounds like a bit of a non issue to me in all honesty. Is the original flywheel even still fitted? A lot of 2004 cars would have had them changed by now.

Have Audi Ireland given to you in writting that you car is not subject to the recall? I'd insist on having it in writting to cover yourself should it go up in smoke. They will likely decline offering it in writting if it is subject to a recall.

There's 84k miles on the clock, and there's noise at idle and can feel vibrations through the clutch pedal when i depress it certain amount of it's travel. So it seems that it quite possibly is the original flywheel. Audi ireland emailed to say that there is no outstanding recall on the audi systems on my vehicle. Note they say "audi systems", could it be that the flywheel is not an "audi system" per se and this is clever wording?
in any case i have it in black and white from vosa that my vin is subject to this defect and have no evidence that my car was inspecdte for this. It was a uk car but i assume audi Ireland would have access to audi uk details so if it was already addressed in the UK, then i guess they would have informed me?

It will be some stroke if you manage to get a free DMF replacement out of this :D

    Is it a 1.9 or a 2.0TDI?

1.9 tdi. If it should've been looked at for fire safety, surely this can't be overlooked just because I'm a bit late?

I'm sure audi would want to eliminate any risk of such an occurrence, although the risk may be smaller now?

I'll make sure not to keep my audi correspondance in the glovebox of the car!
