Was Jesus a gay?

He lived with his mother until he was 30, then went a roaming with 11 male friends until captured and sadistically put to death without a whimper of protest. Is it just me or does anyone else think Jesus was a submissive gay?

I don't know about gay, but he most definitely wasn't a tall, white, straight haired man living with similar people in the middle east.

So perhaps he was gay, but he was also a tanned skinned, curly haired middle eastern man with a very camp sounding name.

Is all that standard gay behaviour or something? You've probably just managed to offend Christians and gays which must be an After Hours first.

So the possibility of Jesus being gay offends you as a Christian?

Says a lot about what you think of gay people really and nothing more.

Ask the priest to do a reading on it at Sunday mass.

He wasn't gay. He was still looking for 2 more lads to fill a hurling team before he was nailed to the cross.

Don't think so. Isn't there references in the bible of him to going to Mount Olive. Whoever she is!

    :D

He was a Zionist before the dispersal of the Jewish people? How do you figure that one?

At least that's what the church would have you believe, I think they turned him into a god and he may have never said he was.

If he was gay, he was definitely the taker.

I dunno if he's gay, I'm more more worried about whether or not I am, seeing as I was made take him in my mouth as a child.

He wishes he was as cool as a Bee Gee.

Sadly for Christians, however, he would have actually looked more like the Muslims they hate than how they try to portray him now.

Don't worry, if you didn't enjoy it we'll just chalk it down as a rape.

Or as the Christians call it: "A surprise gift from God!"

I'm pretty sure Jesus went a-roaming before he was 30. I'm not any religion, but I remember hearing about he took an eleven or so year stroll.

I don't know if he was gay or not, but there was definitely something very different about historical Jesus's nature that set him apart from his community. It may have been that he was homosexual,or it may have been that his mother gave birth to him illegitimately, or some other social factor.

Given that historical Jesus's brothers, particularly James, were also important Jerusalem figures after his death, I would say what set him apart was less likely to have been a personal factor like homosexuality, and moreso a family situation; how exactly Jesus and his family became so independent minded is a fascinating question, and unfortunately we may never fully know the answer.

He is a fascinating historical figure in his own right, leaving aside all of the biblical malarky about him.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,876 ✭✭✭Spread

Jesus was a dosser. He worked (served his time) with Joseph and AFAIK didn't do a days work afterwards. Humble? You gotta be kidding ......... letting a ho wash his feet and dry them with her hair. Great speaker? FFS, his parables can only be understood after a feed of shroons. Peace seeking? Yeah .... tell that to the traders in the temple. Possibly schizophrenic. All in all has left an awful wake of delusion, trouble and death. It beats me why people don't see through the whole charade.

There's no mention that he's straight either. So it's perfectly open for interpretation as is much of the bible.

There are theories that say he went east and picked up all his hippie stuff out there. He may well have just been the voice of what a lot of people of the time where thinking. If inequality was rampant and everybody felt that way he may have just been in the right place at the right time to become the public voice for those feelings.

There are some who argue that his 'lost' years, where we hear nothing about him (until he was around 30) were spent in the desert with a radical anti-Roman sect (The Essenes?), which would have accounted for elements of his 'independent' thought, especially if he mixed it with other ideas and terminology. I'm not sure how popular that argument is anymore (or if it ever was popular).

Jesus doesn't (as far as I'm aware) mention homosexuality at all in the gospels. I'm not sure if this means that he wasn't concerned with it, or that he took it as a given that it was completely forbidden in Judaism. This would probably fit with him being a religious fanatic and all that (although he did have some fairly radical ideas on women and their role in society).

How do you know he lived with his mother till he was 30?
He travelled with 12 male friends, the apostles. If you got that wrong I doubt you are familiar withe the story

I think youll find many atheists know as much if not more about the bible and religion than your average irish catholic. Thats how one comes to and informed decision.

I agree with Ghost Buster, some atheists are so well read they know the bible to the same level as those who preach from it in your churches. I, myself, find that I'm more versed on the book than any theist I know yet still feel ignorant of it compared to some on the Atheism board here and atheist.ie.

These are regular joes, I might add. The biblical knowledge of people like Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens is certainly on parallel or exceeds a lot of theologians. However, not only are they versed in the Bible, they're also deeply well read and researched in science and the evidence against the teachings of the bible, which is why they always trump theists/theologians in debate.

Most christians I know haven't the slightest clue about the book, yet will live their life by it and swear on it. It's quite bizarre.

With regards to Jesus being gay, there is nothing to say he wasn't, is there? There is nothing to indicate he was a straight man, is there?

It's quite telling how offended you're getting at the proposition of jesus being a homosexual. I'm sure you'll disagree, but there would be nothing wrong if it turned out that he was gay. It wouldn't change anything about your faith in the slightest way. It might, however, make Christians more accepting of gay people though, would that be a bad thing in your eyes? According to you, they were made by your God, in his image, after all.

Not to be all serious ...

But shouldnt this thread be locked?
Thread would be very offensive to christian people.

I cant help but feel if something was made about another religion (muslim, etc) it would be locked in a second. Sure, even if a religious person mocked the beliefs of atheists. Again, would get locked.

I don't see anything wrong with being gay so I wouldn't find it offensive, it's Da Vinci Code style speculation really. If anything the lazy generalisations about Christians would be more offensive.

    LOL.

Just because you hate homosexuals, doesn't mean that discussing them with regards to a religion warrants censorship. Your homophobia is your problem, Billy, not everyone else's.

Take your blasphemy and shove it where your Church hasn't reached. Faith and religion is as open to criticism, speculation or mockery as everything else.
