Help with Satellite Radio via Hi-Fi Setup

I'm looking for some help with a very simple setup. I want to get satellite radio (BBC etc...) via an audio unit (ie. hi-fi or micro system), rather than tv. I assume this is possible I'm just uncertain how to do it.

I haven't got any equipment just now, so I'm open to what I might need. I know I'll need a FTA satellite box but what connectors do I need, both on the satellite box and on the hi-fi? Also what cables do I have to get?

    Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. Answers with photos/links would be great, because I'm not familiar with AV terms.

The simplest method is to use audio cables connected from the back of the receiver to the hifi.Virtually all have these connections.

The cables can be bought in any €2 shop

If the audio equipment and satellite receiver have optical connections even better as the sound quality is superior (surround sound & dolby)

Here's the optical cable,a bit more expensive at around €10

Have you looked at Sky Gnome? http://www.sky-gnome.co.uk/

No longer sold by Sky bit it's available on ebay and other places.

TBH I think Internet Radio is a better bet.

Thanks Zerks that's exactly what I needed. :)Where would I get the optical cable at a good price?
MarkK that's interesting about the Sky Gnome, I've never heard of it. I have considered internet radio, although the sound quality of the satellite radio is so clear, for me it seems the better option.

P.S. I found a source for the cables. Thanks again for the help. :)

Hi,the sound quality from satbox is brilliant.I recorded a few concerts from BBC radio 6 onto dvd and then ripped the audio onto a blank cd.Done in real time but worth it.

In most cases optical cable makes no difference on Radio at all. It only makes ANY difference on 5.1 sound tracks (very little on FTA TV, mostly Pay Film channels) as the Stereo is turned to Analogue somewhere. Two channel Dolby surround works just as well on the Analogue RCA connectors as Optical cable, assuming you have a Dolby decoder in amp.

All UK & Ireland Radio is only Mono or Stereo.
