Switching over from Sky and have freesat up and running with saorview arial to follow for Irish channels. I know British Eurosport is linked to Sky but can I get it free from anywhere else or the French/German version.

    Thanks

Yes you can get the German version of Eurosport on Astra 1 Free.
You may need to put up a second dish, or replace your existing Dish with a bigger dish that can take multiable LNB's.
I would often look at the below link for FTA sport on Astra 1 and Hotbird Satellites.

    Thanks for link.

I'm reusing the sky dish, do you think that would big enough for second LNB?

No. I think it would be a challenge.

I would recommend at least 80cm dish.

It can be done; here's my own homemade version (zone 2 dish):

I'm sure there are offset brackets available to buy for Sky dishes & lnbs.

This particular dish is aligned on 28 east & the 19 east lnb was added later. Signal quality on 19, going by the receiver readings, is only slightly down on 28 east readings.

Ideally a bigger dish would be the way to go, to give a decent rain margin on all transponders & possibly allow for further expansion (e.g. Hotbird @13 deg. east).

Thanks. We had Sky plus and I wanted to reuse one of the coax cables from the satellite. One installation guy told me no problem to install another LNB on the dish, the other guy said another dish. Pays to do a bit of research so thank you again.

Are you getting another receiver for multi-sat use or are you thinking of using the Sky box?

Not using Sky box, tv had receivers built in. Can connect directly from satellite and aerial to tv.

Can you post the make & model of the tv; to see how (if) it handles switching between lnbs?

It's the Samsung D7000 Smart one.

That tv will support DiSEqC switching; you can connect each lnb to a DiSEqC switch near the dish, with 1 cable running to the tv & the tv will select the required lnb whenever you wish to view the relevant channels.

Here's the 2-way switch fitted to my dish, 4-ways are also common.

Each DiSEqC compatible tuner you wish to feed will require an output from each lnb & its own switch; Skybox does not support DiSEqC but can still use the spare outputs from the 28E lnb.

Thanks Peter. Won't be using the sky box as we can connect directly to tv from satellite. Up and running with this at the moment but I'll get someone to install the additional stuff, just want to understand what's happening.

I would imagine an installer will want to put up a bigger dish, to guarantee reliability of all channels from both satellites.

I wouldn't be trying to twist his arm with any reference to the likes of my setup, which was mainly done out of curiosity with parts that were lying around & bits of scrap metal.

No worries. Just wanted to get an idea of the possiblities, found it's better to have some knowledge so that I can ask more questions.
