Anyway I'm glad Santorum exists if only for the definition that bares his name http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Santorum

OK, let's humour Dick Scrotorum and imagine, for a moment, that there is a god. If that god is the dude all the biblethumpers are always on about, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, and so on, then the big question is why he doesn't just put a woman in the pudding club the way the Holy Ghost is supposed to have done to the Virgin Mary. No need for the unpleasantness that is rape. I wonder how Dick would feel if his own missus strayed down the wrong street and got boned by a couple of big studs - and became pregnant. I bet he'd be singing a different song then!:):)

So what's he saying, "don't hate your baby because it wasn't his fault you got raped"?

It doesn't really sound that bad, does it?

Or that rape is God's way of giving you the gift of life.

It is one mans opinion. I don't see how it is even important to your life. Some people are stupid, that is a fact of life, the best thing you can do is ignore them.

Getting wound up over one mans opinion, when he's not even in your house saying it to your face, is very daft tbh.

God works in mysterious ways afterall. If he choses to use rape to channel his gift, who are we to judge?

    Me arse.

That should make the female children rape victims in African countries feel a bit better while watching their own kids starve.

Rick Santorum is a moron. He associates social welfare exclusively with black people ffs.

Is he? Is he not just being extraordinarily selective in what he considers to be the work of God? Maybe the devil made the rape happen and God put a good spin on it with the baby? He'd hardly consider himself fit to judge an act of God as 'horrible'.

I'm with pickarooney on this. It doesn't matter whether you actually agree with his stance on abortion or not, it's very easy to understand how he came to this viewpoint. Being honest, I would never condemn or seek to judge the actions of any woman who is pregnant as a result of being raped, but I can totally understand the viewpoint of someone who says the baby is an innocent victim.

For a lot of people the default action on santorum is to ridicule everything he says. I'd ridicule probably 75% of what he says, but this is based on what he, and a lot of people, genuinely believe.

To me that suggests God has chosen to give you a baby.

Presumably he choose the method of delivery.

who in their right mind would bring a rape baby to term? the child will look like your rapist, possibly act and sound like him.

nobody needs a life time reminder of possibly the most brutal thing that ever happened you.

My cousin is a Jehovah's witness she wad raped 6 years ago and was impregnated. Abortion was not and would never be an option.

She went on to have her son 2 months later at her 6 week check up she had a smear test done, she had pre cancerous cells and had a full hysterectomy. The boy is a full member of the family no one looks at him as the rape child. He is a lovely little boy and has given his mom and her family much happiness.

It's the whole Christian thing that makes my skin crawl and my flesh creep. Following on from becoming pregnant by a rapist is a gift from God, then would becoming pregnant unmarried be like a gift from the Trinity (especially if the baby's father could be any one of a number of me).

I really dislike religion. It leads to all sorts of inconsistencies and abuses.

I wonder if he'd be spouting this if God forbid, his wife was raped & became impregnated with the rapists child. Wouldn't that be a wonderful gift from God? Sick b@stard needs to realise that the world is more than America

If you believe in the right to life of the unborn then you don't really have much of an option. For everyone who thinks the way you do there's someone for whom it would be a choice between compounding a rape with a murder and trying to make the best of a bad situation. In any case I don't imagine there is any easy option.

Did you read the article? He went on record to say that his stance wouldn't change if it were his own daughter in that situation. I don't understand the America comment.

Martin Sheen's wife was conceived through rape and both have being somewhat opposed to abortion all their lives.

I think it's a tad unfair for you to assume that anybody conceived through rape will regret ever being born

That debate is for a different thread. The point being the child is loved regardless of how he was conceived.

The child is as much a victim as the rape victim. And that should always be the case. To call it a gift from God though, you really have to despair at some people...mostly Americans

If Rick Santorum had his way it wouldn't be an option for anyone. Thankfully this man is unlikely to get the Republican nomination. I find him abominable.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15 MileyByrne

Sure most boardsies would simply "abort" the child.

Which is an even bigger wrong than the hypothetical rape.

Seems Santorum actually is making sense after all. Legislators have to deal with hard cases every day of the week and this is his reasoned opinion on those who become pregnant as a result of rape.

So leave out the misinformed outrage.

Hopefully the Republicans will win the election. In these hard times America needs a sensible, common-sense hand on the tiller, not some loony liberal.

I'm no fan of Rick Santorum (I'd be a Ron Paul fan), but I admire his position on persons who are born as the result of a rape. Are we saying they'd be better off dead?

I personally would not call it a gift from god more like a blessing in disguise considering her womb and ovarys are now gone.

Yes the child is a victim too.

I have no idea how she will explain about his dad or if she intends to tell him how he was conceived, but that's her business not mine or anyone elses.

*Please note I'm only talking about my cousin not any other rape victim, in my cousins circumstances : loss of ability to have children, her love for her son and his love for her do I use the term blessing in disguise.

I agree with you. I cannot believe that there are women out there who kill their perfectly healthy unborn babies just because the baby's father is a rapist. The baby is completely innocent and should be allowed to live.

Babies are innocent. AFAIC, you can't do wrong until you reach the age of sense - about seven years old.
