Aer Lingus cancellation question

If you book a return flight with Aer Lingus(short haul to mainland europe) and miss the outward journey from Ireland is the return journey still valid should you wish to still use it?

While on the subject what is Ryanair's policy on this?

If you're planning to do this, I'd say just ring the call centre to let them know and it should be fine. Can't imagine there'd be any problem if you let them know. Both airlines should be fine with it.

If your ticket was booked as a return flight the airline generally cancels the second leg of the booking once you miss the first flight.

I'd ring and ask the airline what happens.

Ryanair usually maintain they're a point to point airline - they don't do connections of returns.
Even though you book the two flights in one booking, as far as I know they're considered separately in that way.

Not sure about Aer Lingus. This thread would seem to indicate it's the same, but best to ring to be safe.

you'd want to ring to be sure.

I can tell you that Lufthansa does not allow you to fly the second leg of a ticket if you didnt fly the first one, so its really worth getting confirmation on direct from aer lingus

Alternatively, because aerlingus and ryanair sell their tickets as 1 way tickets anyhow you could just buy two 1 way tickets and then you know youre ok.

Absolutely no problem doing this with Ryanair. Have personal experience of it.
