Car lifting/jacking points

    Hey All,

    I went to a tyre place earlier to enquire about getting some part-worn tyres for €35 a corner. I'm still undecided about new or part-worn yet.

    When I arrived I noticed a car being lifted by the sill (in the middle) under the B-piller using a a single trolley jack, probably because he was changing tyres from front to back.

    I'm asking is this good practice because it states clearly in the car/haynes manual that the lifting points are at the start and end of the sills and nowhere in between.

    If I do decide on part-worn I'll have to go there but I want to make sure the car is lifted properly.

    Depends on the car but the Jacking points are usually on the four corners.

    If he jacked it from the sill in the middle he is a proper clown.

    I use a 4 point lift or 1 axle stand per jacking point on a drive on lift.

    Even then its best practice to use a block of wood to avoid folding where the jacking point is.

    I can't think of any standard frame vehicle that has its jacking point in the middle like that. Poor practice IMO and not needed, if you jack a car on the front sill jacking point it will easily lift both front and rear wheels.
