I know that... I mean now that it has sunk in. I'm a fan. haha.

I think its getting old already tbh.

Yeah its an alright gimmick but will get old quick if he just keeps squashing people and dancing afterwards. Would love for rikishi to appear in the rumble and them to have a dance off.

That would be quality... I'd say there slowly going to use this to have him go from happy face to big nasty heel like everyone expected at first.

But would he be a similar heel to Mark Henry ?

I've updated the title of the thread to what I meant. :D

I'm a fan of the guy but I don't like the gimmick they saddled him with. This is his Mark Henry sexual chocolate noose around the neck. I just hope it doesn't derail his career.

I think the gimmick its funny and good craic. I'm not sure how it will translate into and kind of meaningful feud with animosity, etc. Unless they come up with a gimmick of someone who doesn't like funk music. :D

He is doing a very good job of making sure everyone knows who the jobbers are.

He has amazing music. That is all.

I like his gimmick alot, big surprise from what was expected.

The main thing with him though is you can tell he is having fun doing it.

He's replaced the Divas match as the segment you know you can fast forward through

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,166 ✭✭✭Beefy78

I love it. Plus any segment that gets William Regal onto my TV is alright by me.

The only thing i appreciate about this 'Funkasaurus' gimmick is a potential feud with William Regal.

If not, well i'll give this gimmick until March, and thats optimistic.

I quite like the gimmick considering that I guess it was supposed to be punishment for his Twitter crime.

Right now, I am really tempted to put together a Funkasarus costume for when Smackdown comes in April, even though I know he won't be there :P

Possibly? Him returning to take out Morrison wouldn't work with his current gimmick so I suppose they came up with it afterwards!

That tweet changed Brodus Clay's career forever!!

he is pretty over with the crowd but thats more the music and his lady friends asses :p

The Brodus Clay ‘Funkasaurus’ gimmick has been shelved for the time being. We’ve heard from multiple sources who say Vince feels his ring work wasn’t quite where it needed to be for television. A match with Clay vs. Heath Slater was cut from Smackdown two week’s ago after it was taped when the decision was made he needed to work on his ring skills.

Luckily Clay has been snapped up by FCW :p:p:p

I reckon it's for the best. The gimmick had a very short lifespan to begin with. Best they end it before it gets boring, it was already starting to turn that direction anyway.

Back to Planet Funk then I spose.

"We’ve heard from multiple sources who say Vince feels his ring work wasn’t quite where it needed to be for television."

and yet khali is on tv this past 6 years, vince had gonzales have major matches in the two biggest ppvs of 1993 and had tiny "zeus" lister on tv for the majority of 1989....

    Somebody called his momma :p

I liked him in this gimmick phase he was fun and he was over with crowd could be the music but at least he was getting a reaction (dare I say even better than Zack Ryder is getting) and how can his in ring work be bad he doesnt do many moves

You've finally found an inconsistency in Vince's kevlar logic :pac:

Khali is a celebrity in India. He's used for the exact same reason Del Rio, Mysertio, Sin Cara etc are/were all pushed. To bring in foreign viewers.

Besides, they cant be doing too badly if your next example is almost twenty years ago. :P

How can they judge his in-ring work when all they've had him do is win squash matches?

if wwe were touring india all the time fair enough but khalis name in india isn't being really used to bring in cash

anyway thats not really my point in highlighting those guys, vince claiming brodus' in-ring work is not up to level expected is a bunch of bs imo, what does he expect a 350lb+ man to be doing?? is his work any worse than koslov's in 2008 when he was getting a mega push?? its certainly no worse than zeke jackson who was given a title. to make matters worse i bet if vince had the chance he would put a crippled hulk hogan in the ring wrestling if he thought it could make him money, he was quick to put bret in a major match at wrestlemania only 2 years ago

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,949 ✭✭✭A Primal Nut

Doesn't make much sense. How can he be sure how good he is when he is only given two or three minutes on tv? Surely the point of those kinds of matches is that he does a couple of favourite moves and wins.

What he did was perfect for those matches. Give him a couple of proper 10-minute non one-sided matches and let's see what happens. Royal Rumble was a perfect opportunity.

I'm also suspicious of Vince McMahon suddenly caring about in-ring ability.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,600 ✭✭✭✭CMpunked

Sheamo started his wwe run the exact same way. Went in and destroyed someone in 3 minutes and it took a good few months for that to change. wasnt it when he ended Jamie Noble(?)'s career that he started moving up?

To people giving out that you can't judge him on 2-3 minute squash matches....what's he been doing on house shows and down in FCW? Has he been working longer matches there?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,518 Mod ✭✭✭✭DM_7

    I miss Brodus' Music.

Brodus I don't miss so much.......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,640 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Could be a blessing in disguise for the big man. I don't see why they didn't just let him keep destroying people on Superstars while he worked on his in-ring skills.

This funkosaurus gimmick was already wearing thin with audiences. He was rarely getting any reaction in recent appearances.

It's bad enough being a jobber on tv, imagine being told you're going to be the house show jobber! Unless he faces local nobodies, I cant see him having the same type of matches on house shows.
